I don't know whether it's possible or even remotely in the cards, but if Andre Ward was somehow added to this tournament and managed to win it, then move up to heavyweight and successfully win a title there, it'd arguably make him the greatest fighter of at least the post-WW2 era.Comment

Update from Rafael on US TV.....

Do you see the World Boxing Super Series landing on US TV? Schaeffer probably wants to package both to an outlet. I'm wondering if HBO would bite on Cruiser tourney being they have featured Usyk before.

US TV is really up in the air. HBO told me they have not discussed it in awhile, though the cruiserweights would make sense for HBO in my view. Showtime had been talking about it but Espinoza is very cool on it now and he is not likely to do it. Really not sure what happens with it.Last edited by Mitchell Kane; 07-21-2017, 12:28 PM.Comment

All the US networks that show boxing would be fools not to pick this upComment

Showtime must not be happy about only 1 US guy in it & don't see as much value in it for that reason I'd assume. Not really a US friendly tournament. The CW tournament would seem like it'd have appeal regardless doe cuz thats a legit top ten tournament. Plus bigger guys have more KO power & will likely result in more fun fights for casual fans that could hook them.
Whatever doe I'll be watching whatever channel its on even if no US TV covers it. Curious who if anyone buys it in the US doe. Figure someone will pick it up. Wouldn't be a bad pickup for ESPN if they are legit looking into investing in boxing & can afford it.
I'd be surprised if HBO jumps on it cuz thats 8 shows in 2 months in the quarterfinals or 4 if they just did one weight division. Lampley would die from being overworked with what HBO has been doing.Comment

Part of the issue seems to be the timing...this series starts right during football season.
Plus, there are a lot of fights....it's a big TV time commitment....for an event that is pretty eurocentric.
For the events in Europe they're likely to either be on during the day in the US, or end up on tape-delay...neither of which will help the ratings.....and many of the fighters in this aren't that well known in the US.Comment

I dont have CBS Sports Network so that would suck as I'd have to stream it. AWE picks up a lot of boxing cards but I don't get that channel either. ESPN is already in bed with PBC, GBP, and TR. If no HBO or Showtime, they're not gonna make too much money from US TV revenue.Comment

I don't think anything is stopping ESPN from picking it up....but it's right during football season, which means if they picked it up they might only stream it live on ESPN3 and then maybe a tape-delay airing on TV.I dont have CBS Sports Network so that would suck as I'd have to stream it.
