You've got to seriously question this imo. He's had 3 fights since the Sharapova scandal broke, and he's not looked the same in all of them.

That's what I've been saying along. He didn't check out mentally because of illegally thrown low blows. He quit because he was physically spent to the point of exhaustion due to poor training habits, conditioning and Andre Ward's relentless body assault which eventually wore him down. Once he sat down on those ropes, he had a look of a broken fighter who simply wanted out. So enough of these damn excuses already!

          Boxing is the truth.

Boxing reveals all the weaknesses a fighter has eventually. You've got a weak chin? You probably aren't going to get to a champion level boxer, actually you probably won't get to be a champion without a tremendous chin. Can't stop the jab, you're going to get jabbed to death some fight. Kovalev is soft to the body and has stamina issues, it took an all time great fighter to expose that.

Some of the weaknesses might not be glaring until you fight the best of the best. That's why fighting top tier competition early and often is the best measure. If you fight 20+ champions, someone is bound to solve your puzzle and find your weakness and exploit it.

Makes you wonder about GGG vs Canelo. Has GGG been in the ring with enough master class boxers to have his weaknesses exposed? Not sure, but Canelo for sure has.

I was about to come in here and call the guy salty then I realized that Kovalev's conditioning was one of the main reasons he suffered to straight Ls.

So there may be some credibility to this.

Wow so Ward struggled with a non 100% Kovalev? LMAO

              Kov digged how own whole!

I knew I was right saying after the Hopkins fight he started to change!

I think he should try with Sanchez again and leave his ego at the door or Robert Garcia if not just sign with K2 and try to see if Wlad or Vitali could work with him with some help from Klitschkos trainer!

True. He wasn't likely to say something like ... "Sergey worked very hard and did everything I told him to do .. but unfortunately, the S&C program I had him on was all wrong for a pro boxer "

Mmm .. for once, you said something about Kovalev that fits the facts...

Not saying he was using Meldonium, but it's a possibility.

Silk sheets syndrome. Fatherhood. Fighting not to lose instead of fighting to win. These are all issues that can undo fighters once they get to the top. Disciplined professionals and more cerebral fighters seem to be less prone to it perhaps, but the visceral, emotional guys like Kovalev intuitively seem more likely to fall prey to these pitfalls (- at least IMO. It ain't like I studied the issue).

Kovalev was hit low, repeatedly. There is no training program known to man that makes a fighter immune to low blows.
