It's an interesting argument. On one hand, Canelo is not on a P4P list thus does not count for much if Golovkin beats him. On the other hand, my reasons for leaving him off P4P is because he's been feasting on guys smaller than him and cherry picking crappy opponents. The skills that he displayed are absolutely P4P worthy for me though. Unless Golovkin destroys him, I doubt I'd move him to #1.

As for Canelo, if he soundly beats Golovkin, then he deserves to at least replace him on a P4P list. Hell, if they fight to a decision that's really close, I think that gives Canelo enough credibility to move into top 5 on P4P.

Beating Broner makes you lb for lb #1?

If Canelo dominates GGG who is #2 on a lot of these lists he will have a argument for that spot. Same with GGG if he dominates Canelo. If either guy wins but it's a close fight Ward easily is #1. There is no Mayweather right now, a guy head and shoulders above everyone else.
So you're going by a fight he won 18 months ago ? You're not taking into account anything since. I didn't think he was at all impressive versus Cotto who again what had Cotto done to be listed so highly ?

I understand a win for Canelo would be a big feat but why is a win for GGG over Canelo such an achievement.

I just named 2 lists Boxrec has him #1 and ESPN has him #5 P4P.
I'm not arguing Canelo isnt top 10. I just don't remember Cotto being too 5. Somewhere on the bottom of the list. But not top 5.

If you read carefully, you'll see that I said IT WON'T MAKE HIM P4P #1, BUT HE SHOULD BE RANKED HIGHER THAN LOMACHENKO AND CRAWFORD!

You asked me what has Canelo done in the last 18-24 months. Well he beat cotto that same stretch now you saying 18 months is too long ago? SMH

since then he's dominated every fighter he's faced while other top p4p fighters have lost or had controversial wins. And are you really asking what has cotto or canelo done to be ranked that high? What has GGG done to deserve to be ranked that high? Beat a bunch of no named tomato cans and then look bad against brook and Jacobs? The same P4P lists that have GGG in their top 10 also have Canelo. I don't care how much you fan boys want to cry about it every reputable website that ranks fighters have canelo in their top 10. ESPN, RING, Boxrec, all of them.

The problem is both fights were controversial. How you win matters Bradley got an official win over Pacquiao and it did NOTHING for him in p4p rankings. I think he actually went down in some.

Canelo was expected to beat the smaller man, it's hardly some crowning achievement. He dwarfed Cotto yet never truly had him hurt at any stage, against Chavez he showed no depth and one gear never pushing for a stoppage against a fighter clearly dead on the scales, same could be said of Cotto he out weighed him massively fight night and again never really hurt him or pushed for a stoppages should we even debate the Kirkland and Khan fights we're trying not to detract here right ?
