By the time Weeks stopped the fight, Kovalev also was using the ropes to hold himself up, which Weeks could’ve counted as a knockdown. As per the unified rules of the Association of Boxing Commissions, Weeks should’ve given Kovalev the maximum of five minutes to recover from those obvious low blows and he should’ve sternly warned Ward. Even if Weeks would’ve counted Kovalev’s improper use of the ropes as a knockdown, it at least would’ve afforded Kovalev 10-15 seconds, depending on how quickly the action resumed, to prepare to defend himself.
While Ward won the fight, he shouldn’t be particularly pleased with Weeks, either. Weeks allowed Kovalev to hit Ward with rabbit punches throughout the fight.
This doesn’t mean Ward-Kovalev 2 should be remembered as the 21st century’s answer to Bowe-Golota. Ward did very effective body work at times that was well within the confines of the rules.

I haven't seen a single poster since the fight say "I'm angry at Weeks for stopping it from a low blow and depriving Ward of a legitimate finish. Kovalev was having trouble that round".

Most of them indirectly admit the referee botched the fight then spam "KKKovalev career is over! don't cry *****! We back on top!"

I've never really seen it so dumb around here. Even at the height of the floyd/pacquaio stuff people weren't such blatant **** suckers and had better arguments than "u mad?"

I would settle for Weeks just admitting he had a really bad night.

Outside the ring, I'm a fan of Ward because he represents the sport with dignity and class. Kov? Not so much. However I much prefer to watch Sergey's style than Wards. So it makes me a fan of his as well as I like to watch him flatten dudes. I thought he won fight 1 and thought he could do it again.

That said, it was a horrible stoppage, and I really wanted the fight to continue so I could see Kov spanked conclusively, and show us his will was broken. The right hand by Ward was the game changer and like many have stated, Weeks robbed Ward of the pleasure of beating down the bully, and he robbed Sergey of any chance of maybe showing us something epic. Week's performance =

It's bad here, which In a way Is a shame because most of us are here for the love of boxing. We just happen to like different fighters.

"That Tony Weeks Twitter account is fake"
Probably less than 1% of the russians have internet but all of them make fake news and pro-russia/Anti-US propaganda...

And yep it's sad that Ref 'Weeks didn't let Andre Ward punishing Kovaleva more before finishing him by a real KO letting Kovaleva unconscious and lying face first onto the canvas...
And when I remember all the insults of the Kovaleva's fans toward Andre Ward for probably 1 year and all the BS talks of Kovaleva himself, yep it would have been a perfect ending for all!
And those Kova'Lovas reminds me the Lucian Bute's ****** fans too during the super 6 and before his fight against Froch...

And David beat Goliath once again...Forget ***** & Tom Brady the real hero is Andre Ward! And i can't believe that so many (white & latinos?) Americans supported that russian bully/racist/moron against a great champion as Andre Ward

Keith Idec wrote an almost identical piece the other day. In that, he said again "Ward landed three consecutive blows below the belt line."

I'll comment again- no he didn't.

The last blow, by the looks of it, was low.

The proceeding blow was beltline at worst.

The one before that was clearly above the beltline.

It's clear Keith Idec is a massive Krusher fan who had his heart broken, but this shouldn't mean he distorts the truth in order to suit his own agenda.

Tony Weeks did us all a favor. Kovalev was never going to win that fight but between the knockdown in the 1st meet and Ward's right hand in the 2nd, not a great deal happened and Kov is kidding himself if he thinks there is going to be a 3rd fight. He ought to be talking about Stevenson now.

and worst of it all i had my money on ward stopping kovalev during the last three rounds, what was veey likely if there was no stoppage at the eight. so the ref has stolen money from me as well wtf
