He bent over from the first borderline shot because he was going to complain. Then he took another then he took a nut shot and the ref waved it off. Not quite the story of a good right hand and three good bodyshots is it? You can still like Ward and see it was a rubbish stoppage surely?

Yeah the stopish was crap. But Kovalev was done regardless. He got saved honestly. Ward had him timed so well, and it was getting worse the slower Kovalev got.

If they don't stop it Kovalev would have gotten Krushed regardless. I wish they wouldn't have stopped it because ward was coming on strong.

Yep, well said.I was rooting for Krusher, but if he was going to lose, I wanted to see him get knocked out. That premature stoppage robbed Ward of a definitive win more than anything. Kovalev also could have rallied... and it could have been an amazing fight into the championship rounds.

Spence and Ward both showed how important it is to invest in the body.

I agree with everything except the rally part. He was so damn gassed it would have been tough. Ward had him so easily timed it was getting to be a mismatch. At no time did Kovalev stop following Ward around the ring. It was a horrible game plan and Ward said it best, he made adjustments and team Kovalev did not, they actually regressed in conditioning. Alot of it did have to do with Wards movement and investment to the body in the early rounds.

Ward also hit the back of the head, and also hit his head like Holyfield.
The result of the fight should be invalidated.
Ending the blow below the waist, as Tony Weeks admitted.

Yeah, I meant rally enough to get beat down after another round or two. But yeah, I don't think he was going to win that fight. I agree the better man won.

Well that's the thing. Whether your a Kovalev supporter who though he could rally, or a Ward supporter who wanted a decisive win, it was a bad performance by the ref. I'm not saying he shouldve let him get nailed to the floor, but I stayed up late for the fight and felt the ref spoiled it. But that's the sport I guess.
