Nobody said all weights are bad, it's only if you over train with weights and end up with a body builder physique. Too much of that and you will end up being stiff and slow.

Lol at regular guys benching 225 for 10 reps in the gym who are cutting weight, running 5-10 miles a day, sparring and getting hit, and underfed. Some people have no idea what it is to train as a pro.Comment

It's 100kg, so that's 220lbs. If he did that, it's fine, the rule of thumb is if you can lift your weight it's alright. Those who lift more than that is because they do it on the regular or they are bodybuilders. I don't think Kovalev is trying to be a bodybuilder.Comment

Yeah, I guess that is very possible.
Some of the guys here are making a very reasonable argument, saying that 225 is a good amount of weight for a guy who doesn't train regularly with heavy weights and is cutting weight AND is also doing lots of cardio. My maximum bench press is only 220 lbs and I've been lifting regularly and consistently for a long, long time....But I'm genetically a true ectomorph, very long and slim and have a strong, natural ability in endurance activities and I'm pretty pathetic in building bulky muscle. It's a curse!
I'm hoping to get my bench press up to 250 lbs this year...But it's going to be really difficult and a ton of work.Comment

That envoirment must suck, I mean cool for teh russians but as a non russian speaking person must suck. and teh entire gym is a russian gym now Robert Garcia sold it to klimas and has nothing to do with that gym.
And lifting weights arent bad bulking and putting on weight is and lifting usually add lbs of muscles. The heavier you are im sure the less a concern that is but if your a fighter draining down every ounce to make a weight you arent gonan risk putting on a extra pound of muscle (and this is most bxoers) so thats why most dont do it.Comment

It's because people here in the U.S. at least have totally used benching as a metric for how strong a guys is. "how much can he bench" . I couldn't bench very well when I was running 3-5 miles a day and weighed 170 pounds-my brute strength dropped significantly...
I just don't think people really get it. The NFL body type has no weight restrictions at all...and most of those guys play positions where they don't need a great deal of cardio..Comment
