tarver looks like a beast in those pics...
The Bernard Hopkins-Antonio Tarver Weight Situation

it would be so ridiculously satisfying to me if tarver were to have the exact same thing happen to him that happened to roy jones. i doubt it will (i don't think bhop can knock him out)- but if he comes back from the heavyweight scales with no power left in his punches that would just be some funny ****. tarver is still pushing 40 whether he's been boxing 9 years or 20 years- and that HAS to count for something as far as all this weight stuff goes.
but again- IF it played out like that... it really might be one of the most beautiful ironie's ever in this sportComment

Hopefully Tarver wasn't sharing Stallone's roid coctails. Tarver looks reallys strong in the chest and arms in those pics, but his midsection looks like it's got some fat. If he was ripped muscle comin' down in weight, I think it would be a much bigger issue.
The main issue in this fight, to me, is not Tarver's weight. It's whether Hopkins can take a light-heavy punch and whether Tarver can deal with a boxing tactician like Hopkins.Comment

It's funny because Tarver won't even mention his weight because he knows it's no excuse. Roy Jones used it as his excuse for the "sub par performance" in the first fight with Tarver when really weight had nothing to do with it in the end. Tarver was simply too much for Roy.

because it was so funny when Roy used that as his excuseOriginally posted by Bozo_no noEither way that's way north of 175. At 36 and with that weight he was pushing, I think he's going to have a tough time sweating down to 175 again.
Nothing would be more funny than to have a weakened Tarver drop a close fight to Bernard and cry afterwards about how the weight effected him.

You REALLY don't like Roy Jones, do you?Originally posted by DiegoFuegoyou're full of ****. still bitter that Tarver beat the living **** out of Roy I guess
Coming down in weight, moving up in weight - they're both going to have some effect on a fighters performance. If it didn't, there would be no issue with fighters moving up and down weight classes between every fight.
Jones gave as good as he took in the 1st fight. The 3rd fight was an unimpressive showing by both fighters. The 2nd fight was one-sided, but was really just a 1 punch fight. You've gotta be realistic about this, because Tarver in no way dominated Roy Jones. He didn't beat him down like Calzaghe beat Lacy or Mayweather beat Gatti. I don't think Tarver will be able to walk over Hopkins, unless Hopkins can't take a light-heavy punch, which is not so much an issue of Tarver, but just light-heavies in general. This should be a good fight, unless you only like brawls. The weight issue will have some effect on both guys, but I think there are bigger issues to be looked at.Comment
