This. weve seen enough mma guys submit boxers. I mean hell even freaking kimbo slice submitted ray mercer in a hold and kimbo slice was about as far on the striker spectrum as possible in mma but knew better than to box a former champ. about time an mma guy fights a boxer in the squared circle.

      • Floyd is currently 40 years old. He's also been out of the ring for almost 2 years, WITHOUT sparring. It is unprecedented for a guy to just waltz into a fight after 2 years out of the ring at the ripe old age of 40 and walk all over a professional combat athlete
      • McGregor will be bigger than Floyd not just in weight, but also in height and reach. Floyd hasn't faced a fighter who has surpassed him in both height and reach in 10 YEARS and that was when he fought fishnets (who to his credit put up a "competitive" fight)
      • McGregor can crack. I don't care what you say about his skills. In the fight game all it takes is ONE PUNCH.... ANYONE even the most gifted technicians of all time can get knocked out by something they don't see.
      • How will TBE accustom himself to the novel atmosphere and build up that is a UFC fight. He has no experience with the UFC "crowd" so to speak and he is therefore entering hostile territory
      • Everything to gain and nothing to lose The pressure is on because if Floyd does not give a flawless performance, if he makes ONE MISTAKE, he risks being on the receiving end of non stop ridicule from the haters, losing this fight could very badly tarnish his legacy.
He's already being ridiculed and is losing credibility just by considering this fight. If he loses, he will be absolutely hammered into the ground by boxing fans forever.

It's about time promoters stop relying on 2 networks and dictating everything. The downside is promoters can make any fight they want without any opposition.

Yea the lil intangibles, key word being lil, you bring up are very legit & you can bet the ones that can be brought up will be in the promotion of this fight to try to entice people into wanting to see what happens on PPV.

The most interesting one is the everything to lose, nothing to gain angle for me. I honestly can't think of a fight this big that has so little meaning for one guy. I've mentioned this before, but there is a moral W to be had here for Conor for virtually doing anything just under decently respectable vs Floyd. If Conor wins 1 round its a f#cking miracle vs the guy most everyone considers the best fighter of this era. If Conor lasts 12 rounds its amazing as a guy in his pro debut boxing. If Conor somehow hurts, stuns or drops Floyd thats a gif for some cats on this forum + on MMA forums til gifs are extinct & everyone switches over to something 200x better & then it becomes the new that on whatever people use after forums.

I'm not intrigued at all. Mismatch of terrible proportions. Nothing is changing my mind. Not even if Connor proves he can actually box and take a punch.

Lotsa MMA guys have had boxing matches. The problem has historically been that there were circus fights in MMA that old boxers could get into for nice money while in boxing you need a name to even get a meaningful fight to begin with & MMA names had virtually no value in boxing.

MMA fans tend to be boxing fans cuz MMA includes all fighting styles. Boxing fans tend to be less accepting of MMA & MMA guys. So there was money for old boxers to get into MMA & no money for MMA guys in boxing. Nowadays when there is more money in MMA than in the past & the best money is in boxing at the very tip top its not unsurprising this is happening now assuming it does happen. And I'd bet even if this doesn't happen a high profile MMA guy vs boxer match will happen in a couple years anyway.

But I could probably name 30 odd MMA guys off the top of my head who've boxed (& I'd bet there are 100+ out there who've had fights), they just did it on the come up or before the UFC as there was no consist &/or respectable pay involved in MMA til the late 90's & early 00's when the UFC starting gaining steam. In fact the best MMA guy to a lot of MMA fans, Anderson "Spider" Silva is 1-1 in boxing.

              http://boxrec.com/boxer/152826

His first boxing match took place in 1998 when he was 2-0 in MMA. He got stopped. He had his 2nd pro boxing match in 2005 about a year before he signed with the UFC.

the whole post is a load of **** but that was the worst of it. so anyone who can punch is a legitimate opponent for mayweather, the so called TBE? My mate barry can crack too, knocked a guy out cold outside the chicken shop after a night out, should he get a shot at mayweather too? i mean after all, it only takes one punch, what if he lands flush?!?! theres levels to boxing, and i'd imagine theres a pretty big level between someone who was p4p number 1 and someone whos never had a professional boxing fight.
