Comments Thread For: Adonis Stevenson Vows To Drill Fonfara, Wants Ward or Kovalev

Like I said, I thought Dawson was shot and Fonfara was just going to pick up a good W. But, Chad's footwork and timing were on-point. Those are the two main things I look at when judging if a fighter still has anything left because those are the first to go.
Fonfara hung in there though and pounced when Chad gassed so it was a good effort from both guys.
I'd much rather see Adonis fighting someone who actually deserves a title shot right now, but if he's going to take bullshyt fights, this is about the most intriguing bullshyt fight he can take.Comment

In the event of a victory, Stevenson already knows what he wants: to fight in unification fight against the winner of the rematch between Andre Ward and Sergei Kovalev.
"The unification, I'm here. I'll let Al Haymon negotiate. I think unification is what the planet would like to see in boxing. "

“I’m the king. It (the criticism) doesn’t bother me. It has been four years I’m the champ,” Stevenson said. “Talk like that doesn’t mean anything. The opportunity, when it’s coming, it’s coming.
“It’s not my fault when Kovalev pulled out. It’s not my fault when Hopkins went on HBO. That’s the game. I don’t care and I don’t listen to people like that,” he added. “I’m the king of the light-heavyweights. When you’re the king, for sure you’re going to be criticized. You have people who don’t like that. People talk, talk, talk. You can talk, but I’m still the champion.”
“The division isn’t only Kovalev or Hopkins. It’s deep and talented. He has fought anybody willing to get in the ring with him,” Michel said. “It’s just a perception. He avoids Kovalev, which isn’t the case. He avoided Hopkins? Not the case. Pascal? They all had opportunities to fight him and all turned it down. To cover, their promoters and themselves kept pretending it was the other way around.
“It seems to be a pattern, people turning against Adonis.”

Adonis has avoided Kovalev and Ward for 5 years now
Adonis is a joke with no career and and an empty head. The Haiti voodoo witch doctor Stevenson is a clueless moron who has ducked Kovalev and Ward repeatedly choosing to fight lesser talented foes like pencil neck Bellew and Fonfara. Comical Adonis might as well go back to Haiti or back to prison after kidnapping and torturing a few more woman. Nice class act that Adonis the felon joke.Comment

"Bernard Hopkins is the main reason why Adonis is on Showtime and not on HBO. We were in a meeting with Richard Schaefer [then promoter of Hopkins]. Hopkins said: "If Adonis comes on Showtime, we do a unification together," says Yvon Michel. Everybody got a hug and we decided to go in that direction. There was a conflict between Schaefer and Hopkins and Hopkins went on HBO to fight against Kovalev. "

And what other "fighters" are desperate enough to resort to this?Last edited by ////; 05-13-2017, 07:20 AM.Comment

Fonfara starts off slow but he gets better as the fight progresses. You could see that vs Stevenson even after he got KO'd twice and he also beat Campillo that way. He's a tough SOB. He was beating Smith's face in and had his face all red until he got too ****y and got smacked with a huge punch that he didn't recover from. **** happens. Fonfara needs to brace the storm from Stevenson early. If he does that, I think he's the new champ. Stevenson is trying to end this early and if he fails, he will be hella tired and Fonfara will be there like a dog to chew him up. He's hungry and pissed. And for my opinion on the Dawson fight, I had a feeling Fonfara was done until once again he proved his heart and knocked Chad out of there. The man is fighting for his pride. Stevenson just seems too ****y going into the fight.. age and ring rust may be a factor here but Stevenson is still very dangerous with the left. I hope ref doesn't stop this fight too early if anything crazy goes down in the beginning.Comment

Sergey Kovalev is HBO's house fighter, and if the fallout talks are actually true (Kovalev backed out of a face-to-face interview [featuring two fighters who can barely stand each other] in front of a paying PPV audience that topped 1 million PPV homes and packed out closed circuit venues across the country [if the experience I had at my usual spot was any indication], with no repercussion, while Andre Ward gets read the riot act, for missing an important promo interview that will likely only get real push on YouTube [as HBO doesn't have another scheduled fight card between today and the Ward-Kovalev II PPV]), it becomes pretty clear that James Prince has no loyalty to HBO and will act accordingly.
Package bringing Ward on board with a few dates for Roc Nation (and Espinoza holding his nose to work with Top Rank when Stevenson is ready to headline his own show) and you've got the makings of a deal.Comment
