Barrera vs. Morales, they genuinely hated one another. Barrera was from Mexico City and referred to Morales as an Indian from Tijuana.

It wasn't just that, Chavez, SR was an aging, celebrated Mexican boxing star. Mexicans were likely appalled that this "gringo" Mexican De La Hoya had the audacity to fight and dethrone their "true" Mexican hero.I recall how much Mexican fans resented De La Hoya when he fought and beat Chavez. Apparently, Chavez is a "real" Mexican, DLH is Mexican-American, and while he was huge with Mexican fans, he was pigeon-holed into a different category once he took on Chavez. Suddenly he wasn't Mexican enough. I agree, it's an odd dynamic.Comment

Why don't you just post from your main acct so I will know why you're so mad at me.
When someone "with a brain" calls me out I'm more than happy to get into a real discussion. You, I'll just laugh at.
BTW, you gonna keep covering your eyes every time someone posts an example?Comment

Excellent post. Change a few words around and that could be a strong introduction to a really good article.Strange to me how Mexican boxers are always talking about how they represent their country and how one is more Mexican/less Mexican, etc. Not that I think there's anything wrong with it. It's a foreign concept to me. I can't imagine two Americans arguing over who is more American (unless it's the GOP primaries).Comment

This my only acct sir, this is between you and I and no one else. You make claims without substance, and as soon as I called you out on it. You change the subject..

Not Mexicans fault that we have a strong sense of pride! Real true Mexicans are raised to first and fOremOst respect, everyone sPecially your elders... second to be proud of whO you are and where yOu are from... in America, don't work like this. Whole different way of thinking. Not saying one is better than the other that's up to debate and all depends on what you believe in. But in Mexico, respect one, pride and culture is secondComment

Chavez Jr. hasn't done anything in the sport other than have one good round against Sergio Martinez.
I hate people who idolize people for their name only. Chavez Jr. is a mediocre fighter and this fight will not even be competitive. Canelo will actually look Pacquiao-fast in this fight.Comment

I think if you go back and read the thread, you'd see that you were the one who really escalated the intensity with a "STFU," which really wasn't warranted at that time in the conversation. Since then, many people have presented examples illustrating his point about Mexican pride in the build-up to fights.
Now you seem to be saying that those examples don't count because this is just between you and Redd Foxx. You're not exactly having a private conversation.
I think you need to take a breath and regroup.Comment
