I don't see the comparison really. Woods was something new and probably reformed the image of golf in popular culture. I know there had been young famous golfers in the past but nobody who reached the level of fame in mainstream culture at the time. Woods probably reformed the image of golf from an old white mans game and the new face of golf was a young black/asian man and then he . He was different and great.
Boxing has seen lots of Anthony Joshua's really. He is extremely popular now but he's nothing new. I guess we could say he might become the first modern day fighter arrive and really transcend the sport since the rise of social media and whatnot, thus making him huge worldwide.
Even then, boxing is a fickle sport and losing a boxing match or getting knocked out is a lot more damaging to the public image than not winning a golf tournament. Once Joshua loses, the endorsements will dry up and the fickle casual public support will disappear.
