  • People keep saying Klitschko let him off the hook. If that's the case, so did Joshua after the KD in th 5th. He couldn't finish him because although he was gassed, Joshua was still clear headed and fighting back. Joshua should be getting props for coming back the way he did rather than assigning blame to Klitschko.

Let's be honest the fight was only competitive because AJ was so inexperienced and didn't know how to pace himself. Once he got his 2nd win he shut out Wlad.
Let's just put those W's in Wilder's resume. He doesn't even have to fight them. lol..

Wlad's career a farce.... A 41 years old HW great giving fans a Fight of the Year candidate, and that's the only comment a "boxing fan" like you can give. Pay your respects and be grateful of what you saw.

What's the honest equation on it?

            • Wow edge of the seat stuff....i honestly thought joshua would not get through that 6 and 7th round .....probably the most aggressive i have ever seen wlad and showed what a great champion he is and was...41 jesus...as for AJ Made a huge mistake by not bossing klitchcko at the start and letting klitchcko back him.......but he took his digs and came back and finished him...that uppercut was brutal that joshua landed at the end...amazing fight

Yep, boxing fans can never just enjoy themselves when great fights happen right in front of them. Always have to tear 1 or both of the guys down for some reason

Dont know why Wlad stopped pushing him in that 7, that cost him fight. Not sure about Wilder beating him because we dont know Wilders chin, but i know that King Kong can beat him.
He's not chinny. Joshua took a flush "headbutt" (most biased commentary by Showtime I have ever heard on either major U.S. network) in the 10th round that on replay was one of the hardest straight rights I have ever seen. His head snapped back like a jack in the box on a spring, but he stayed up and wasn't even hurt, I have no idea how.

Otherwise, I agree with you. Joshua's stamina is suspect and prime Klitschko would have beaten him. I also think the only reason his punches put Klitschko out, but not vice versa, was the 10 pound weight advantage. Still, that's part of Joshua's skillset, and Klitschko was also able to take advantage of being lighter by having better stamina for most of the night.

Joshua did well to get the win, but it feels more like the better fighter gave it away, than he took it. Joshua barely had any energy except for the start of rounds after he rested. All Klitschko had to do was jab and stay conservative the first minute of each round, and then take over the last two minutes when Joshua had nothing. Instead, Klitschko came out aggressive and got caught in the first 5 seconds of round 11. Very ******. But, that's the hometown advantage at play. Normally Klitschko would be able to fight within himself and outscore the tired man to a decision, but he knew he would get robbed in the U.K., so he looked for the knockout himself even though he should have been ahead, and got caught himself.

That's why the victory feels somewhat hollow for me from Joshua's perspective. A 41 year old should have beaten him, and would have on neutral soil or if he had fought smarter. He also could have knocked him out in the 6th if he went for it there. Either go for it when it's there, or just take the decision by fighting smart. Klitschko got caught in between those smart options and picked a dumb option instead.

Also, when Joshua was dead in the 6th, he spit out his mouthpiece and got a 15 seconds rest. When Klitschko was hurt in the 11th, he did not spit out his mouthpiece. You can call Joshua smarter, although I think Klitschko doesn't do those things not because he's less smart, but because he's more honorable, but either way, little things like that can decide which fighter makes it out on their feet, and which one doesn't, in heavyweight slugfests like this.

For all those reasons, Joshua stock dropped for me. I was surprised how well Klitschko took his punches for most of the fight, and Joshua accuracy and stamina were both not as good as I'd hoped. Still think he knocks out Wilder early, before stamina becomes an issue, but Tyson Fury would still be the best heavyweight if he was in shape, and Klitschko would still be the best heavyweight if he wasn't old. This era is more exciting but I'm not sure it's as good. Deeper, yes, but the top guy is not as skilled.

They don't realize how hard it is to hit a guy when he's taking the round off. Joshua (very smartly) took the heat to regain his legs. Wladmir did what he could. He was trying to close the show at that moment.
