Golota is weak mentally, but he always fell apart against fighters with a big punch, or large fighters that he couldn't finish off. Jack was never a fighter to really go after anyone until they were completely exhausted, not even all the 160 and 170 lb. he faced. I doubt he'd try to go after Golota, who isn't much smaller than Willard, who pretty much kept Jack on the end of his jab before knocking him out. Besides, Jack threw looping punches that often didn't even finish the smaller fighters he faced with one shot, because he was used to having his left hand on his opponents' forehead and hitting them with the right. Watch the Golota Ruiz fight, since Johnson and Ruiz don't fight that differently lolLast edited by hollister; 05-26-2006, 03:11 PM. -
Well, because you brought it up, I'd go back and review the footage of the Willard fight...or reread the reports, whichever is your source of info. Johnson was leading in that affair and handling Willard pretty easily until fatigue set in around the 20th.Originally posted by hollisterGolota is weak mentally, but he always fell apart against fighters with a big punch, or large fighters that he couldn't finish off. You do make good points about Johnson's style and when Golota broke down though, I give you all the credit for that. Still, I can't see Golota beating Johnson. Just can't.Comment

Let me see Golota a guy who weighed 240 pound who fought really good fighters who all weighed over 200 pounds vs Johnson a 190 pound fighter who fought with little 4 once gloves but yet had 30 fights go the distance with him.A 190 pound fighter who fought in a era when most people didnt throw combinations..Johnson a guy who was knocked out once by a man who weighed 170 pounds in 3 rounds...hhhhmmmmm this is a hard one.Anybody who says Johnson just leave the forum.Don't watch boxing anymore because you are a idiot.
Golota would of jumped all over Johnson and stopped him in one round. You people really need to stop having people read you books about how great Johnson was or how great his deffense was.How hard is to avoid one punch at a time?I dont remember him facing lets say a fighter like Lewis or Tyson who both weighed over 220 pounds jumping all over him throwing power shot after power shot like Golota did.
If Johnson didn't have the power to knock out more fighters with those small ufc sized boxing gloves (83 wins and 52 knock outs) Then how could he keep Golota off him?How would he hurt him.And if you want to put Golota in Johnsons time period so he would use small undersized gloves things would be even worse for Johnson.
Golota by easy knockout either way you put it.Comment

But he didn't perform well against those really good fighters.Originally posted by tommyhearns804Let me see Golota a guy who weighed 240 pound who fought really good fighters who all weighed over 200 pounds vs Johnson a 190 pound fighter who fought with little 4 once gloves but yet had 30 fights go the distance with him.A 190 pound fighter who fought in a era when most people didnt throw combinations..Johnson a guy who was knocked out once by a man who weighed 170 pounds in 3 rounds...hhhhmmmmm this is a hard one.Anybody who says Johnson just leave the forum.Don't watch boxing anymore because you are a idiot.

Golota would jump all over Johnson?
When the hell did Golota "jump all over" anybody? Uh...DING!!...never, dumbass. He was a boxer, a technician who worked behind the jab. And I don't care how big he is, a man who is mentally weak will succomb to a man who is mentally tough every damn time.
You should know this since you love pointing out Tyson's weaknesses to the point of unbelievebly flawed exageration. Mike lost to Evander and bit Evander because he was a mentally unstable individual. Guess what he and Golota have in common? That's right. Glad you could connect those dots.
Incidentally, Willard was bigger than Johnson and bigger than Golota and Johnson was an old, fat 37 year old fighting in the 100 + degree heat under the Havana sun in 1915....and it still took Willard 26 rounds to get him out of there. Maybe if he'd thrown more than one punch at a time, right?
Go back and look at the footage. Johnson threw several three or four punch...OMG...yes, they knew how to throw combinations back then. Imagine that...actually knowing how to throw more than one punch at a time. It never ceases to amaze me how many people such as yourself actually believe older fighters never threw combinations or knew how to handle a buzzsaw...of which Golota was not. Like I said, he was a technician and Golota wasn't smart enough to outbox Johnson, much less "jump on him" and get him out of there in 1 round. What a dumbass prediction.Comment

Agreeing in a big way.
"(fill in the blank) out of the correct" was a phrase often used on a MMA forum I used to frequent, I think it may have been the Underground Forum, reserved for when someone has posted something that you agree with.Last edited by Kid Achilles; 05-26-2006, 05:08 PM.Comment

Cool. I thought so; but I'd never heard that particular phrase before, so I wanted to make sure. Thanks.Originally posted by Kid AchillesAgreeing in a big way.

Jack Johnson didn't even know how to throw a combination, infact nobody did those days. His fighting style is amateurish.
Golota would destroy him because Jack is going to fight a real heavyweight unlike the middleweights and welterweights he usually fights.Comment
