thats the way i see it

he was more durable and a seasoned pro

he cut a lot of weight for 140 and often looked like skeletor at weigh ins lol

would have been nice to see him have a frazier to his Ali but the era he fought in didnt have a lot of all time greats near his size.

he did face some prime top guys and he dominated most of them except Castillo....Corrales, Canelo, Judah, and Hatton
It has to be said that some of it was down to his business acumen too. There were fights that could have been timed better from a purely fan perspective, but floyd, as well as most promoters look at things from a revenue perspective. That's why it's such a gift when we get to see top fighters face eachother at their absolute best.

spot on...people dont realize how rare it is to see two prime ATG fight...its very rare and probably happens 2-3 times every 10 years

2008 would have been perfect for this fight...cotto vs mayweather

Id have rather saw mosley vs mayweather in 1999 before mosley moved up to 147...honestly IMO he had the best shot to beat mayweather in his career but he went for the golden goose....$$$$ makes sense.

I mean ...WTF? This is why & only why the critics will always be there about him. He retired when the welterwgt division was heating up. I mean that would be equavilent to Ali retiring when Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Shavers where all in the division. Same like Leonard retiring when Hearns, Benitez, Duran, Cuervas were in his division. Floyd is a great fighter...but the critics will always be there...it is what it is.

.thats what eats at these cats souls...i don't care how many floyd pump up threads you make, or how you try to spin floyd fantasy fights into atg wins, the real is, fights ain't happen when they should have happened...who cares who ducked who, and what the excuses are..if oscar, or sugar ray, or ali, the previous a-side cash cows, can have all those prime guys on their resumes win or lose, wtf was floyd's problem....
Two of the sanest and most credible posts on this thread. There is a reason why Floyd didn't fight Cotto earlier (along with several others in multiple weight classes), so to speculate now that he would have been more dominant over Cotto at 140 than at 147 is foolish to say the least.

But, this is another Mayweather Cheerleading thread for the pseudo-boxing expert to preach to the choir and rally around The Best Excuses ever champion.

Keep in mind that Cotto and Mayweather made a fight with each other in mere weeks after Cotto left Arum. Arum stopped that fight for years.

Sad how watered down the sport is really. Life of a boxing fan...consistently being fed the 2nd, 3rd, 4th best fights that can be made.

To say that Cotto wouldn't have been "Competitive" with Mayweather at 140 during that time period is absurd. Being competitive is one thing, actually having a chance to win is another.

I think during Cotto's prime after the Mosley fight would've been a good time to fight Mayweather. He would have had a chance to win during that time at 147.

And maybe during the time Roach was with Cotto before the Canelo fight. Cotto was having trouble getting down to 154 before Roach. When he got with Roach and the guy from the Sports Science lab, his conditioning and stamina improved a lot. Maybe even now with Roach he would have a good chance. But Mayweather is retired and only going to fight McGregor. So we will never know.

OP made this thread so we could justify floyd ducking cotto.

A poorly conditioned trained by an amateur coach cotto literally gave Floyd bloodily hell. What in the hell would a younger,140 pound better conditioned, trained by his best trainer( uncle evangelista) do to Floyd? All I know is Floyd wanted to part of that.

Cotto wanted no part of Floyd at 140, i remember clearly.

Cotto was at ringside for Floyd-Gatti and puto's face turned all white n sht as if he saw a ghost while watching gatti get wrecked.

No version of Cotto beats floyd anyways.
