Have you ever been in the ring?

Do you know how difficult is to implement all your techniques and strategies when you are in such a high stress and exausting situation?

It is not easy, is not like playing videogames. You have to be a master of your mind to stay focused and aware when somebody is trowing punches and hitting heavy on your face. Your brain goes in freeze mode, automatically.

You can't imagine till you find yourself in that situation. It's a strange feeling and you don't get used despite the training.

There's a ton of fighters with good fundamentals.

You probably just never saw them.

Most of the pros we see are naturally gifted or athletic and those guys are not as fundamental.

Think basketball or any other sport.

The high school, college, etc. guys a lot are fundamental and play "the right way"

But who makes it to the pros?

The gifted guys who might not be as fundamental because they got away with just talent when younger.

Lack of amateur pedigree is one. The other is that there are so many bad coaches out there. Honestly, I listen to the instructions some coaches are giving their fighters in the corner and I feel sorry for them. They haven't got a clue and the fighter getting slaughtered isn't getting any help from his corner.

I've been in quite a few boxing gyms and I can see so many bad coaches out there who think they know what they are doing but they aren't even teaching the basics such as keeping your chin down, the importance of footwork, how to slip a punch. It's pathetic.

When I start my son in the gym I need me a Virgil Hunter type of trainer. Drill after drill after drill until you reach mastery.

Its not easy to get Jab going against good fighters ,also most good fighters have good jabs,Cotto,Floyd,Manny, marquez had good lead,DLH ,some fighters just dont base theyr style on Jab.

they dont lack it! its just that they dont prefer to do those things that you mention. not every fighter fights exactly like how a boxer should. everyone has their own style and what they like to do. if everyone does everything by the books, then you'll have 2 fighters doing the same thing over and over in a fight.
