i found this interesting. funny how he doesn't say why they are gonna justify kovalev for losing but not him
when a fighter who is beloved takes an L, they always have a cushion

Kov lost and has hardly been asked what he can do better in the rematch

double standards.....example...Jacobs gave GGG a close fight....it was a good fight...will his fans demand a rematch? no....but these same people have been whining since november about the rematch with kov

what were the excuses when GGG had just a competitive fight...Jacobs came in at 200 pounds doe.....he wanted to get the 12 rounds in doe....really? a guy who knocked out 20 guys in a row now cares bout getting rounds in.

Ward didnt lose so you are just yapping.

be realistic bro.....excuses are for losers...Kovalev needs to focus on training for June

Nothing wrong with a little ethnic pride in sports, so long as it doesn't cloud your judgment to the point you discredit any fighter who isn't of the same race.

I observe a lot of blatant racism on this board from blacks who slam any white or Asian fighter, to whites who make harsh comments about blacks or Mexicans, and all that other nonsense in between. I see fans who make excuses for boxers of their own race, where they wouldn't make the same excuses for fighters of another race. So much hypocrisy and hatred that is rooted in skin color.

I respect Ward's take on the race issue in boxing. While I am not a fan of his boxing style, I respect him as a man and he has experienced racism from both whites and blacks. He didn't make an uneducated, emotionally charged statement like most fighters and fans, and he has certainly earned a right to voice his observations.
This is a great post. Firstly, yes, the racial solidarity thing goes both ways. In fact, all ways. Which isn't all that bad in isolation - but the problem is that these people flood this site with their agenda. They cannot be honest about anything. Boxing discourse is almost impossible because you're dealing with a bunch of guys rooting for their guy.

Secondly, re Ward - I don't think people have read the article in full. He's a lot more thoughtful and honest than guys like, say, Mayweather and Nate Campbell, who flat out accuse everyone of being racists if there is any criticism towards a black fighter.

How does he act? He is respectful of other fighters talent and work. He appreciates his fans. He is a family man who regularly represents the boxing community on radio and TV in the US and abroad. Not a criminal. Fights the best fighters at his weight class. Sacrificed years of his career to defend what he thought was a bad deal for his friend in his contract (loyalty). I mean the guy isn't a saint or perfect but exactly what is it that he does that is so negative?

they use his personality as a decoy...in interviews, you are asked questions and you answer them

he says things about guys like GGG, Canelo, more beloved fighters and their fans cant take the heat

Ward has class but they are looking for reasons not to like the man.
I have also noticed that BoxingScene failed to post an article regarding Kovalev's statements about U.S. trainers/coaches being "zeroes" and he rarely listens to them! I haven't even read articles about the status of JDJ. Read:

kovalev stalks ward on social media. calls him f*ggot, mother****er, n-word (in russian), threatens to assault him in a hotel lobby, says he will end his career, mocks his religious beliefs and tells ward supporters to suck his d*ck, mocked stevenson with a gorilla shirt on a child, is very disrespectful of his own trainer and bashes american trainers on russian outlets, makes endless excuses for underperforming.. yet this is the guy HBO tags and pushes as the humble respectful one, the "good" guy. why is that?? lets ask captain obvious.

Too slick. Too Irish. The media won't cover an Irishman honestly unless he is a guy like Micky Ward who gets his head kicked in. Damn shame. Stay woke.
