    Here's Pernell Whitaker's:

Already IBF, WBC and Ring lightweight champ at 25.5.
In time leading up to and thru his 29th birthday Whitaker did the following:
Defended IBF and WBC titles 6 times.
Won WBA and lineal and defended those 3 times
    Won IBF 140 lb title
Won then defended WBC and lineal welterweight titles

The man that beat the man that beat the man will always mean something in this sport.

It's why, no matter what happens between Kova and Ward in the rematch, someone is going to have to go look up Adonis.

I understand it will be respected, but I don't. The minute the belt is vacated when a champ retires, that man that beat the man talk goes right out the window. Boxing's history won't allow it. There have been too many instances of this, too many champions not willing to fight each other and so on. This is why Canelo is considered the lineal champ when he's never fought at middleweight. I'll call somebody the man of a division when they beat the guy everyone else thinks is the man in the division at the time and so on but with the titles, there's no way to really establish this. Agree to disagree.

          Fair enough.

That still doesn't change the fact that Loma shouldn't be compared to Floyd or Pernell (or any other ATG) at this point.

It is just as foolish as arguing that Mayweather and Whitaker were as great amateurs as Loma.

They weren't. Loma is the best amateur ever most likely.

It is absurd to compare amateur careers.

Just as it is idiocy to compare them as pros right now.

Yes, I agree. It's way too early. How about we respect all three fighters and enjoy the show?

              Agreed.

I am not annointing Loma but I aint dismissing him either.

And, it doesn't look like he is avoiding too many folks right now, either.

So in this case, we should get to actually see where he really is.

He's obviously very talented but people are getting a bit carried away.
