Ward won the rounds in which KOv didn't work as much and was better in the middle than the start but like you said, he never did enough to win.

It was a bad decision, plain and simple and we should call it as such.
    you gonna post your scorecard?

That's right, give him hell. What's wrong with Larry thinking the black man won one fight and the white man won the other. And especially lil g, he's the ultimate enemy. You have to pick a side and stick with it. Either you're on the Slick Bruvvas team, or the Stiff Euros team. You can't have it both ways.

Seriously though I didn't score it round by round the first time I watched it, and upon first watch, it felt like Kovalev was going to edge it out -- especially when they said unanimous decision before they read the scorecards, I thought 100% that it would be Kov. But it's easy to get influenced by the commentating and Lederman as the fight is going.

I went back and rewatched it the next morning, and I tuned out the commentating and just focused on scoring the rounds.

And I can definitely see how Ward eeked it out. Don't get me wrong I still think it could've easily went the other way -- but I don't see Ward winning as being blasphemous as all.

From the couple of scorecards that are posted here, the most controversial rounds are round 3 and 12.
I have also marked these 2 round as very close.

round 3 was a very slow pace round, not really much happened, but Ward started to land clean and visible jabs. Kovalev had more output, but landed nothing really clean.

round 12 was higher paced, both guys tried to leave a good mark. I just thought Ward landed the better shots, but not by a large margin.

If i scored one of these rounds differently, I would have Kovalev winning.

ok. here is how i see the fight. posted in the same thread you started too

                59-54 kovalev so far

7-in the first minute of the seventh nothing happened, nothing at all. then ward starts to land with the jab, snaps kova's head a couple of times. grabs and tries to work his body. lands 3 or 4 punches, that the HBO guys praises but kovalev also lands in the inside too. they exchange rabbit punches, kovalev rocks him with a straight left hand. seventh round for ward. this is the first round that i trully see ward winning.

8-first 30 seconds of the 8th is only wrestling, nothing happens for both. nothing happens in the next 30 seconds. so in the first minute is more wrestling, ward lande a couple of body shots and kova to the head a couple in the clinch. ward keeps punching while byrd tries to break them. the next minute the most meaningull thing are 3 jabs to the body and left hand to the chin for ward. ward ends the round with 3 good body shots. this wrestling is getting very boring. another for ward

9-first 30 seconds, more wrestling they both land body shots in the clinch. they break. they both exchange jabs to the body, kovalev lands a right hand over ward's shoulder. ward in returns lands another jab upstairs. kovalev lands a couple of left hands, they land flush, wards tieds up kovalev push him away. best punch for ward is a right to the body kovalev returns with a two punch combination. kovalev with another right hand. ward breathing with his mouth open. kovalev ends the round with a good combination. round for kovalev

10-nothing happens in the first 30 seconds, ward rushes in kovalev pushes him away and more wrestling. in the next 30 seconds, a couple of jabs for kovalev, ward mises badly with a left hook. they trade a couple of jabs upstairs, they both land. in the inside they both land kova upstairs, ward with more low blows that body shots. kova counters ward big time with a straight right hand. they both trade jabs upstairs and land. kova ends the round with another right hand. and another round for kovalev.

HBO and hunter keep saying kovalev is tired but to me ward looks more tired than him even though kova does look tired, the only positive thing for ward in this round is that sergey was bleeding trough the nose (i didn't notice if the bleeding started in an earlier round) also at this point max and roy are insufferable, my god get ward's dick out your mouths

11-nothing happens in the first minute aside a couple of low blows from ward, byrd warns him. ward lands a jab that pops sergey's head back and follows with a left to the body. they both trade left jabs upstairs and land. kova hurts ward with a right hand with one minute 15 left in the round. another right hand. andre follows with a left to the body and left to the head that backs kovalev down, sergey takes ward's punches way better than ward takes his. good jab by ward, good jab by kovalev. ward literaly running away from sergey right now. andre pushes ward down to the canvas. ward closes the round with a good jab, snaps sergey's head back. close round for ward

12-ward starts the round with a good left hook. another good left hook by ward in the first 30 seconds of the final round. jab to the body and right upstairs for ward. kovalev responds with a good lef hook, backs andre dow. now ward pushes foward, land a couple of punches and they wrestle some more, rabbit punches by both fighters. they clinch, ward lands a left to the head and kovalev follows up with a couple of body shots. ward responds with a left to the body of his own. and kovalev again with a body shot. low blow by kovalev. close round but ward edges with a couple of good body shots at the end. round for ward.

                K-W
                10-9
                10-8
                10-9
                10-9

                10-9
                9-10
                9-10

                115-112 for kovalev.

                  Here's my live scoring card:
                  1 - Kov
                  2 - Kov 10-8
                  3 - Ward
                  4 - Kov
                  5 - Ward
                  6 - Kov
                  7- Ward - close.
                  8 - Ward.. Kov's fighting Ward's game and losing.
9 - uh.. draw? Ward? Probably Ward.
10- Gonna take a coward's way out and say draw.
                  11 - Ward
                  12 - Kovalev

                  115-115 Draw

I'd make two adjustments to that card:
                  1) Correct my original bad math (should have been 114-114, not 115-115)
                  2) Change round 10 to clear Kovalev round, which makes the final score 114-113 Kovalev.

kovalev really took his foot off the gas towards the end compared with the earlier rounds.

It's really this simple. Rounds 3 and 12. Give them to Ward it's 114-113 for Ward. Give them to Kovalev, it's 115-112 for Kovalev. Split them then it's 114-113 for Kovalev.

That's how close this fight was.
