Particularly since he's made comments in his post fight interviews about how he's the best in the world and fears noone. Him getting blatantly wide decisions in close fights also doesn't help the perception that he is protected and favored.
Difference is that both FLoyd and Ali had accomplished a lot more than Canelo has when they began to market themselves as hated men. Canelo is pretty much forced on the public as him being some superstar. Canelo has done nothing in his career to be compared to those guys.

He sold 52k tickets but look at the situation. Its Dallas, Dallas rarely host any big fights so yes people were going to show up to fight that happens once every two years. Add to that the ticket prices were affordable and people will pay. Canelo can't even sell out any of his fights in Vegas and those only seat 16-20k. It's like a lot people around my town don't like the Cowboys, but guess what a lot people show up to see them when they're in town for training camp.

I'm not saying the majority of fans in the crowd are against Canelo. I'm saying I feel like Canelo is the most disliked boxer of recent Mexican boxer history. Its less of an opinion on Canelo & more of an opinion on how loved & respected past Mexican fighters were. For example maybe the audience & fans are 75/25 (pulling this number out of my ass) for Canelo, but the audience & fans were 90/10 for Chavez Sr back in the day.

I'm not even confident in saying most of the people in the audience or fans were against Floyd so I definitely wouldn't make that claim with anyone else since a young Ali or Jack Johnson who may have had that caliber of hate vs love among fans.
Not true and you don't even have to go back far in Mexican history just look at the man across the ring from him. Chavez was more disliked they rioted and attacked him with bottles for phuk sake. They hate him for ruining his daddy's name and list of clownish things he's done in the sport of boxing. When fans at his own fight boo canelo and bum rush the stage trying to bust his head with bottles then you can talk we can have a conversation of canelo being hated by mexicans.

If your criteria is Chavez then nobody including Canelo compares to being loved by Mexicans. If he never gets the Chavez Sr support there is no shame in that. That's like saying since Lebron James isn't as good as Jordan then he's a bum. My point is anyone saying Mexicans hate Canelo is pure rubbish and was put to bed when over 52,000 showed up to see him fight a bum. He's fighting a well known Mexican fighter in Chavez and it hasn't even been close at their press conferences fans are showing up far more for Canelo then Chavez. The fight won't even be close to a 50/50 crowd it will be pro canelo. That doesn't happen if your people hate you LMAO

Again I'd argue that for a time Oscar was hated on more by Mexicans then Canelo is. People don't realize how bad some resented him for the beat downs and making Chavez quit on his stool. And the he is too "gringo" and not "mexican" enough narrative that Chavez started by the way was pretty nasty. But these are ********** far more mexicans rooted and supported Oscar every fight then hated on him just like Canelo. Oscar NEVER got the Mexican blind stamp of approval that Chavez Sr did but went on to do pretty well for himself lol

In vegas it's not about sellouts it's about live gate. Floyd rarely sold out his fights yet set all kinds of alltime records for live gate figures. They comp tickets to draw high rollers. They gave away free tickets for GGG vs Wade and barely had 16k in attendance. GGG promoter refused to release the live gate figures. Canelo/Smith drew a live gate more then DOUBLE what GGG biggest live gate ever. GGG doesn't even fight in these venues (Vegas and Football/Baseball stadiums) for a reason.

Granted it was a different time in US history, but its not like he didn't make an effort to be more hated on top of the hate he was getting for just being a dominate black boxer.

Thats reasonable & I could see that. I'd say the difference is Canelo is legit Mexican while Oscar is a Chicano which are always less appreciated by "real" Mexicans in Mexico. Or so I've been told anyway.

well it did better than pac vs margo, if you think is that easy, why no other mexican boxer sells out stadiums in texas??...
and by the way about canelo cant sell in vegas, that is ******ed, he packed MGM vs josesito"no fanbase" lopez the same day chavez fought maravilla in vegas, and canelo was like 20yo... he did the same vs angulo, lara, cotto, chavez, etc...
by the way the one boxer that hasnt prove that can sell tickets in vegas is ggg...

I have to agree. What Johnson experienced was pure, ugly, blind hatred. I think Ali sometimes stirred the pot for fun with twinkle in his eye, but he could also be very cruel at times as he was with Joe Fraser.
