Comments Thread For: Chavez Jr. Laughs at Canelo's Last Win, Feels He's Overhyped

Ali was hated due to his persona and political stance. Mayweather was and still is despised among many for his brash attitude and tendency to flash his money around. Canelo is strictly disliked for boxing related reasons. His/golden boys choices to stay protected and avoid the best fights available to him, especially since beating cotto, is what drives the hate. Particularly since he's made comments in his post fight interviews about how he's the best in the world and fears noone. Him getting blatantly wide decisions in close fights also doesn't help the perception that he is protected and favored. At one point Ali was the most despised boxer in America, so was Mayweather. Things change over time. Borrowing a line from the movie China Town: “’Course I’m respectable. I’m old. Politicians, ugly buildings, and whores all get respectable if they last long enough.” think the same applies to boxers. Canelo might be revered by future generations of Mexicans if he ends up very rich and continues winning fights. But will they even remember Chavez Jr.?Comment

That might be true today, though tens of thousands of adoring fans show up to his fights, but time washes away a lot of baggage. Time dims memory. How many remember that the now avuncular Don King was a hardened criminal who killed two people and spent time in prison and reportedly cheated boxers of millions of dollars. Over time even this guy who Tyson described as: "a wretched, slimy, reptilian motherfvvvucker" was pardoned by the Ohio governor because of the entreaties of people like Coretta Scott King, Jesse Jackson, George Voinovich, Art Modell, and Gabe Paul, among others. I am sure Canelo will survive whatever hate is presently out there.Ali was hated due to his persona and political stance. Wait am I in the Twilight Zone? Is Chavez really calling somebody else overhyped and fighting guys smaller then him? Really!?
Chavez own PROMOTER famously bragged about how he purposely put Chavez in the ring with low ranked bums for years and guys far smaller then him. Chavez career highlight is winning a paper belt that was wrongly vacated from Sergio. Held it for only a year until he fought the real champ and lost. Has never held another belt BEFORE or SINCE. Has been fighting journey men the last 5 years stepping up once to fight a middle of the road Fonfara and quit. Mexicans booed him started a riot and threw beers at him in the ring that night.
So that guy is calling Canelo overhyped? In the last 5 years Canelo's worst opponent is better then Chavez's biggest win in that same stretch. This is like Milli Vanilli telling Mariah Carey to stop lip syncing at your concerts LMAOComment
