Great fighters don't need to move up. They just need to be in great fights against the best opposition they can get. GGG has consistently fought the best guys who were willing to get in the ring with him. More importantly,160 is going to get an infusion of young talented fighters in the next year or so. If GGG unifies the belts they are all going to work their way into become his mandatories. Jermall Charlo just needs to get past Jorge Sebastian Heiland to become GGG's mandatory for the WBA. Why move up just when things are going to get good? We're about to see the most talented middleweight division in years. If GGG can make 160 he should stay at 160 and try to hold the line against all these young lions.

    seriously, you sound clueless

    the bold is utter rubbish

you need to beat great fighters in order to be great yourself, there is no other way

the fighters who move up, have more opportunities

"be in great fights against the best opposition they can get".... pfffff, ya gotta be kidding me..... I guess you must be a casual fan who loves Golovkin

Such a great business man his trainer was prior to the fight. I mean there was no rematch clause and now he wants to negotiate by talking out of his as s. Should've thought about that sooner son.

The difference between Hagler and GGG, outside of Hagler actually being a good fighter, is that Hagler had ATGs that he was waiting on to come to him. Hagler was waiting on Leonard, Duran, and Hearns. GGG is waiting on Canelo, and chasing down the David Lemieuxs and Billy Joe Saunders of the world. GGG is a decent fighter with a lot of hype, feasting on a ****y division. No matter how you spin it. He's chasing bums.

As for Hagler, yep, he had his hoe card pulled, and responded like a b1tch. And that was when Michael Spinks invited him up to light heavyweight, citing if he was willing to fight little guys, he should be willing to fight bigger guys.

Why do y'all keep talking about a rematch clause. The rematch clause is for the A-side. B-siders don't get rematch clauses.

Wow, great point bro. Didn't even realize Ward has three belts, which don't mean **** to the GGG c.ocklix.

Wasn't Jacobs the one who was iffy about a rematch when asked?

Anyway, they should probably make the rematch next before the Canelo fight. Billy Goat Saunders will gain 100 pounds, be inactive then fight another "tune up" next year.

You came out made a strong statement that in order for a fighter to be great he needs to move up. Your very acknowledgement of Hagler's greatness is a tacit admission you were wrong. I was making a very specific point to something you specifically said.

As for the rest, I agree. The problem with GGG is that there is no Tommy Hearns, Roberto Duran or Sugar Ray Leonard to test himself against. Miguel Cotto could have been a much lesser version of Roberto Duran for GGG's resume but Cotto chose to run away. In any case, I would argue that the only guys north of 160 that could have a similar impact on GGG's resume would be Andre Ward and Sergei Kovalev. But during the time GGG was starting to get known amongst the American fight fans Andre Ward was locked up in a legal fight with his promoter that derailed his career for a while. For his part Sergei Kovalev fought (and still fights) two divisions higher than GGG. With potentially big money fights against superstar fighters like Miguel Cotto (at the time) and Saul Alvarez on the horizon can anyone really blame GGG for holding out to see if he could get those fights.

Finally, we do not know what heights guys like Jacobs, Andrade and the Charlo brothers can achieve. Maybe the flame out. Maybe there is a future hall of famer in there amongst them. Who knows. It'll be excited to find out and I'd love for GGG to be the one who helps determine that.

That's interesting. I did not know that.
