3 outta 4 ain't bad. He beat Segundo Mercado in their rematch after he was dropped twice in their first fight for Roy Jones vacated belt. Funny thing about Hopkins record is that for more than half of his reign. While respected, he wasn't viewed as great. He was basically viewed as, while a good fighter, a former RJ victim feasting on a mediocre division. what was more important to Hopkins career and legacy? Beating Tito, or winning all the belts? In those days, the WBC, WBA, and IBF were sufficient enough to be called undisputed. I honestly don't even know when the WBO gained enough relevance to be necessary in the equation. I scored DLH-Sturm for Sturm. But even in the buildup to Hopkins-DLH, Hopkins hold on the middleweight division was so concrete, the belt DLH brought to the fight was really nothing more than a footnote in history. I honestly had kinda forgotten that DLH even entered that fight as a "world champion."
And prior to Jacobs, that is basically how I felt about GGG in the middleweight division. Beating Saunders for his belt wasn't gonna make GGG anymore undisputed than he already is. Just like Hopkins beating DLH anymore undisputed than he already was. The only dispute in GGG's undisputed claim is that there's one guy that he's fought that he didn't clearly beat.
