boxing is a young man's sport, and the only reason you're seeing guys in their 30's on the forefront is because they've figured out how to stretch careers by fighting less and against lesser fighters on TV. lomachenko is smaller, less marketable, and not likely to have a career that stretches into his late 30's, the way ward and kovalev would like their careers to stretch, by virtue of his matchmaking. small guys get thrown to the fire early so they can make money off of matchmaking, not as stars.
then why is manny ranked so highly and so highly touted and he is damn near 40? his skills and resume are top notch

Ward just turned 33.....floyd was p4p #1 until he retired at 38

of course they dont fight like 20 year olds

ward has shown he can adapt to any style and is far more proven vs certain styles than Loma...Do you see ward losing to a 175 Salido type? heeeeeell naw

Loma is awesome but he doesnt do well when pressured or when on the inside...id have to see him overcome a top fighter with that style first to say he'd beat ward.....ward can spoil. box. walk you down, catch and counter, literally everything...loma isnt as crafty inside and hasnt had many rough fights like Ward vs Froch, Kovalev, Bika and came out on top

if they were the same size id pick ward.....he can fight anyway anyhow to win...hes prove it. Loma hasnt yet and its ok.

I personally think Lomachenko is the best fighter on the planet. But if Ward is not P4P #1 then Kovalev as I felt Krusher beat Ward by a point.

Ward and Kov are 1a and 1b for me if we are talking a combination of skill and resume. Hopefully we can get a clear winner in the rematch.

If we are talking who I think is the most talented fighter, it would be Crawford for me with Loma hot on his heels.

thats very fair...has to be kov or ward....two top 5 p4p guys proving they are elite

Loma may be the best, he just has to prove it in the ring, his skills are amazing, i love watching him....i take a lot from him when i train....his inside game is his only glaring weakness. phone booth fights

crawford and loma may be the two most skilled in the game..they just arent as proven as ward and kov though.

Kovalev or Loma! That is my Top 3 Loma, Ward, Kovalev in any particular order. Even if you thought Ward lost still was a close fight and I do think those are arguably the best 2 Fighters in boxing and I honestly don't see anybody beating them BESIDES them beating EACH OTHER!

Loma is more of a PROJECTION for me, but on top of the Projection of what he will potentially continue to do, he does have a strong Resume when you now add Walters to it on top of Gary Russell Jr who is currently a World Champion. Yeah he Lost to Salido and I would love to see him Avenge that but for a guy who only been Pro 4 years, now his 5th year it is probably the best start to a Pro Career I've ever seen as far as not jumping into the fire early vs better competition while most take about 15-20 fights before stepping up competition

I don't see 1 P4P King reigning on top for very long time in this ERA like Mayweather or Pacquiao though! I feel like it is more TALENT in this ERA compared to Mayweather and Pacquiao in their PRIME and the Talent Level is much more EVEN where as Mayweather, Pacquiao, Klitchko's ERA they was just levels ABOVE the REST in their Division. Now things seems to be much more EVEN!

No list shouild have a guy ranked in a top p4p position who never fought at the world level for almost 4 years.

If we follow that logic then Ward would have had to work his way back onto the list and he would have done (obviously not straight in at 1 or 2) if he had beaten Kovalev. In my book and according to most, he didn't.

So in my personal list, which we can follow chronologically, I had Pac at number one (May no. 2). Pac got KOd and May moves into the number one spot.

He stayed there till he retired, when Wlad, who was number two, moved into the top spot. Pac was number 2 (moving up from 3).

When Fury beat Wlad, Fury moved into my list for the first time but not at 1, whereas Pac took over the top spot and Kovalev slotted into 2.

Since Pacs "retirement" after the Bradley fight, KOvalev took the number one spot. He has not lost it as I thought he beat Ward and did so quite well.

You can follow how my lists changes here: https://www.boxingscene.com/forums/s...d.php?t=738181

and it also contains my criteria

I suspect it was just politics (note: not prejudice or racism). Look at the BWAA Fighter of the Year award winners for the 2010s...4 black fighters. Ward would've made it 5 in the decade. How boring would that be, just black fighters getting it? No white fighters before Frampton, no European fighters. They figured "eh, Quigg/LSC>Barrera/Kovalev...or close enough".

In a weak boxing year, it was between Ward and Frampton..they figured Frampton beat his opponent better than Ward beat Kovalev so they gave it to him.

2017 if all goes well for GGG, he may get it if he beats Saunders and Canelo and I would do say he'd deserve it if he does beat them. Jacobs, Saunders, Canelo would be the best resume anyone would have this year. Keith Thurman if he beats Peterson and Spence/Brook would be really close too, with the DSG win.

Canelo if he beats Chavez Jr and GGG I imagine would be a strong candidate.

Lomachenko would have to pick up the pace quickly after Sosa. Crawford is not on the scoreboard yet. Ward either, and at this pace he may end the year with just the Kovalev rematch. Kovalev is in the same boat.

The year is early but no one is making any noise. If it continues like this, GGG gets it with ease if he beats Saunders and Canelo.
