Canelita couldn't even put away a aged Cotto. Cotto took Canelitas best shots and went the distance. We all know that GGG would of walked right through Cotto. How is Canelita going to deal with triple GGG for 12 rds? It would be a good beating which he deserves for all his ****ing around.

The only thing Jacobs has that is better than Canelo is power, Canelo has a better chin, he's faster, he has better defense, he has better upper body movement, he has more skill, he has better timing, he is a better counter puncher, he's been tested more, what else should I add???

i agree that Golovkin is the deserved favorite

i agree that discounting Jacobs would be silly

i agree that a win would further cement his P4P spot

and i agree that if Golovkin were to dominate Jacobs he would be a prohibitive favorite over Canelo, regardless as to the manner of Canelo's victory over Chavez

but i do not agree that beating Jacobs would "evaporate... the criticism regarding the fact that GGG hasn't fought anybody".....

all it would do is add a rare "very good" win, to Golovkin's resume'

it would be a very good start in the right direction, but it would evaporate nothing

Nope. Canelo is the superior fighter and on p4p lists for a reason while Jacobs has already been put to sleep and dropped by light hitting non ranked mora. Jacobs has more power and has a better chance of landing a lucky punch. But has a suspect chin at best. Canelo is more well rounded fighter with better defense and a better chin. Higher ring IQ can make adjustments, set traps, and win more ways, fight at multiple distances. Jacobs has only been past the 8 round once he only wins 1 way. Canelo will outbox and take GGG to deep waters and drown him.

Cotto was on his bike refused to make the fight a war wanted to make it a tactical boxing match and Cotto who is more skilled then GGG lost a boxing match of skills. Cotto refuses to fight canelo like he did against pacman, segio, floyd. He was going forward trying to knock those guys out. If he did that with canelo leaves himself open for counters gets put to sleep. Instead he was on his bike going backwards never engaging for long content losing rounds but not getting knocked out. It's about styles and his style he chose was low risk against canelo. So canelo easily out boxed cotto to win. It was up to cotto to switch it up take more risks he was losing and ultimately lost the fight.

Idiots said cotto was going to knockout canelo when he lost somehow the fact cotto got on his bike to prevent getting kod is a negative for canelo? SMH

Agreed - the way things are going, the only way for Golovkin to get recognition is to become a second Hopkins. Stay at middleweight for another 5 years. And Hopkins is one of a kind - he's the professor of boxing. It's possible that Golovkin can become a master boxer as his physical gifts start diminishing, but not very likely.

Golovkin needs another fighter with a lot of hype around him. Even Canelo won't do because he is 'smaller'. A Ward win would have done it... but I don't think Ward will go back down to 168 and I don't think Golovkin will go all the way to 175. So it looks like the only way for Golovkin to get recognition is to stick around and become part of the landscape for the next 5 years - a pity...

I guess another scenario is that Golovkin fights all the standouts of 154 one after another as they move up. That would be fun to watch. Charlo brothers, Lara, Andrade, Julian Williams if he gets back on track... Not that many exciting fighters at 160. Or 168 for that matter.

                    good points

yea, I don't agree with this talk

Canelo is a proven world-class fighter

so what if Jacobs is a couple of pounds heavier than Golovkin..... I have been listening to ggg-fans call Canelo a middleweight for the last 2 years, some have even called him a LHW

now Jacobs is the hulk LMAO
