Thurman And Garcia Are Not Elite

Both very good boxers, but not quite premium enough to be considered an "elite" talent. Neither is destined to be the new king of Welterweight unless we're prepared to enter into another dark age period of the division.

What about the others? Is Kell Brook? Hard to say; He was outboxing GGG until he got injured, but he still hasn't faced great enough competition in his own weight class to determine just yet. Errol Spence Jr.? Same deal - The fight between them in the coming months could tell us a lot. Shawn Porter? lol No. He's already lost to both Brook and Thurman, he's not the guy. Jessie Vargas is a bum. Amir Khan is a joke. It's sad to say, but an old and withered Manny Pacquiao may still be the greatest Welterweight in the world right now, even at almost 40.

Thurman is elite. Danny was elite at 140 but not at 147.

Yep Garcia and Thurman would be fringe contenders in the 80s and even 90s.

      Brook is elite though imo.

True on so many levels. I like Thurman and want him to be the man...but when you have your man outgunned, you make a statement. When Ward was coming up he didn't squeak by he outclassed the opposition. Thurman had a big opportunity to show the difference between a flat footed guy who has good hands and potential greatness and either he couldn't or he didn't. His corner didn't help.

Both fighters are B level fighters, nothing great.

Guys like Cuadras, Nietes or Yamanaka are better than both.

And his fight was too mediocre and boring

Thurman is close to elite but not quite. Garcia's luck ran out. I've always said that Garcia was the luckiest boxer. You can only beat the house so much before the odds stack up against you with those skills. Not taking anything away from Garcia. He's a well rounded boxer but lacks a mastery in all fields. He's the epitome of a journeyman who got lucky more than once.

Danny's biggest mistake was to turn down Mayweather. It would've been a sure loss but it would have banked him huge in a heavily publicised "somebodies O has got to gO!"

Those guys are definitely a notch above Thurman and Garcia..

Dont forget about Juan Estrada and Inoue too who are about two levels above garcia/thurman.

That is why I only get excited for smaller division fights like 112-135.

The great boxing is in lower weights. 112-135, of fact, Manny and Floyd were lights fighters, but people is pumped for all that bit.ches in 147 pounds and more, when the great quality is in other divisions.

Thurman will lose to Spence. Garcia I think will beat someone like Jessie Vargas.
