Yes, Thurman hurt him, which made him very gun shy. That was the reason why he was hesitant, tentative and wouldn't overly commit to throwing enough punches for fear of being countered by Keith. He even admitted to this in the Jim Gray post fight interview.

He rolled the beginning of that punch. Had he not do that it would have been KO round 1. That punch was thrown with bad intent. Even with him rolling it he was hurt by it.
