I don't believe Haye done any sparring prior to this fight, he was simply doing pad/punch bag work, this is why he looked like a pub boxer.

5 years since his last competitive fight, surrounded by a bunch of idiots, a young trainer who was in awe of him, plus his body inside is damaged due to age and injuries.

Anyone who trains or is a boxer at any level, knows you have to prepare & train correctly but from what I gather, Haye has been obsessed with body conditioning, hence him looking like a greek god at the weigh-ins and feeling invincible because he's boxing like Ali against pads and a punch bag - that isn't how you prepare for a fight - especially after a lengthy absence from the ring.

Haye achieved a lot in boxing, but with his his talent and physical gifts, he could have done so much more.

He took short cuts in training and, yet again, he tried to take a short cut to another a really big fight, vs AJ.

You take short cuts in boxing, you are going to end up in a blind alley.

It just comes back to desperation. If you're desperate for something to happen, you're more likely to take shortcuts.

If Haye was training with Booth, sparring correctly and got injured, a young Haye would pull out and prepare again for the next fight.

Since the Wlad defeat, it's just been wrong decision after wrong decision and injury after injury.

Great post. All he's been doing since he announced this comeback is trying to tread water until the Joshua fight. What he didn't count on was Joshua not needing him to make huge money and his body breaking down in a glorified PPV tune-up.

That being said, after the show of heart on Saturday night I don't want his career to end with him desperately crawling back through the ropes on one leg as his trainer waves the towel. For all his faults, he deserves better than that. I hope he has one last win and moves on with his life.

I have just seen recent reports, that David Haye is not retiring! and aspires to return to the ring, to seek his vengeance! i actually think his heroic performance up against Tony Bellew, is wining back the public's admiration of the David Haye! this is a man who once prided himself on being the nations hero! Haye showed tons of heart, and he gave the fans a real fight as a result. No doubt at all, the action after he got injured was more like the blood and guts slug out that people were hoping to see than the chess match type boxing which preceded it.

He also did himself a lot of good by remembering not to use his injury as an excuse for losing, the way he did after losing to Wlad. In this case though, he would have justified in making excuses. Everybody could see that he had a major problem, and I'm sure they'll give him the props he deserves for not giving up and still trying to win.

Should have bet on Bellew once Haye threw the first wild erratic punch! 14/1 here in the UK at start of the fight. In-fight betting, could have been a rich man!

I don't think Joshua's is STACKED, but he took on a chance to get a belt and did it. He's had 18 fights. Are you seriously telling me that - especially including his next opponent - hsi resume isn't significantly better than Wilder's right now?
