Same true for Canelo. Nobody will bring him money like GGG. not even 3 fights combined. On his own Canelo draws about 300 thousands viewers or even less. Canelo-GGG is easily 1.5-2 mln PPV fight.
I guess GGG team eyes purse of about 20-25 mln for this fight. However they probably might settle for 15 mln flat fee, if GGG-Jacobs wouldn`t draw and Canelo-Chavez Jr. would.

youre kidding, right ? if thats the case, canelo would have fought 3g instead of khan, instead of jr. a contract would be signed right now if that was the case.

all big money for 3g runs through canelo.

        This...this...THIS.

It is the biggest reason why I do not like how Golovkin and his team is approaching the potential fight against Canelo.

Golovkin is not as big as Pacquiao is, and doesn't have close to the resume of Pac.

He is not as popular as Cotto, and does not have the resume of Cotto.

Canelo fought and beat Cotto, and that fight did not reach 1 million PPV buys.

Golovkin should treat this situation like Bernard Hopkins did with Oscar...B-Hop was the recognized middleweight champion of the world and proved it in the ring beating Keith Holmes and Felix Trinidad plus defending the undisputed title four times...however, he accepted the catchweight and the smaller purse to fight and beat De La Hoya.

The problem is that Loeffler and Sanchez feel that Golovkin deserves more than what is being offered right now.

There was much more of a gap in starpower between Oscar and Hopkins than here. Even then Hopkins was given a strong guarantee, and ppv upside which Canelo is unwilling to concede to GGG, but willing for bums like Khan and Chavez jr

Really the biggest difference is that Oscar really wanted to fight the much bigger, much less popular Hopkins, no Mando needed, no great fan demand. While Canelo is desperate to avoid the biggest fight in boxing to the point of forfeiting his belt and loads of fan respect

I doubt that it is because of Canelo and more on Oscar for protecting his cash cow.

Oscar just had his lawsuit dismissed against Al Haymon and basically incriminated himself to get it to that decision.

He may not have much left in the promotional game on the high level (still has good lower tier fighters and fights) so Canelo is all he got

Fair enough, maybe it's only his team that's ducking but he was overriding their concerns when it came to Trout and Lara and those weren't half as anticipated. I understand Gbps concerns also, but then you gotta put these flat fees in their proper context of avoidance

Yeah...I think either K2 was concerned with Trip strength at a catchweight or they thought GBP would fold based on pressure from NSB posters who support Trip.

                    good post !

                    but.....

Golovkin refusing to negotiate on weight with lil old faded 153lb Cotto..... was beyond bizarre

he was Golovkin's best possible payday

then, Golovkin did the exact same thing to Canelo

that is the opposite to what most fighters would do

                    BIZARRE !!

and yet, nobody batted an eyelid

Canelo is running out of low risk-high profit fight options. His last big fight was against Cotto, and Cotto took a lions share.
Khan and Liam Smith showed progressively diminishing draws for Canelo. GBP is really lucky that Chavez Jr. decided to take the fight this time.
What is there for Canelo after that?
Rematches with Cotto, Chavez Jr or Lara? These are not megafights.
I guess fight for WBO title would be the most logical next step for Canelos career. Other than that every other fight would be high risk or low profit. So GGG fight would be very appealing for GBP.
