Why Didn't Rjj Fight The Brits?

In 1995, The British Super Middleweights Took A Clean Swipe At The Pba Awards......

1995 Fighter Of The Year: Nigel Benn

1995 Fight Of The Year: Chris Eubank/steve Collins I

1995 'young' Fighter Of The Year: Joe Calzaghe

At That Time Rjj Was At His Peak, I Doubt Anybody Could Of Beaten Rjj At His Peak But Those Brits Were Better Competition Than Byrd, Pazienze, Thornton, Lucas, And Brannons Weren'tthey?

This has been done to death already.

Yes, they were/are better than the fighters you have named. But the fights certainly aren't going to happen now, better just to leave it at that than to start another thread of abuse between the fans and the haters.

        oh bloody hell.....not this again.

The brits refused to fight out of UK.....and why wud RJJ, the undisputed £4£ number 1 come to the UK for a fight? The brits never even talked much bout fighting RJJ - in an interview benn admitted that rjj was a level above

Plus jones fought guys like hopkins, toney and virgil hill who were all better than the brits.

Saying that - a young nigel benn cud well have KO'd RJJ.....RJJ was too slick for collins and the eubank fight wud be one of the classiest fights u ever see, with RJJ getting a close decision imo.

Re Benn, he had heaps of praise for him and described him as a "warrior" and also stated his friendship for the G man. I think he said he wanted to fight Benn at that point, not for revenge, but out of respect for McClellan.

When talking about Eubank, he was informed that Collins had just beaten him (fight took place earler that day i think) and Jones seemed genuinly shocked. I got the impression that a fight with Eubank had been on the cards and that Jones's dismay was about that fight, and payday, disappearing.

There no doubt Jones wanted to go to England to fight Eubank, at that time Eubank was making more money than anyboxer in the business so Jones would of got paid handsomely too.
JuyJuy, seriously, how many alts do you have. I know this is your alt, dont ask me how, but I know...

pretty much how i see, i have the interviews where benn admitted that he was "number 2" behind rj and said "im very realistic, roy is one hell of a fighter, i rank him above leonard" and other stiff.

i have a 93 interview with the zulu sugarboy malinga where he says eubanks was 'a very good boxer' and benn was 'not a good boxer'. eubanks completely outboxes malinga, malinga outboxes benn and gets robbed. its very clear that eubanks was a much better boxer than benn and would of given rj a much closer fight than benn.

collins and calzaghe weren't in the class of eubank despite beating him with sheer pressure, but calzaghe does have a fast pair of hands and could of given rj something to think about. eubank at his best was pure poetry, and because rj wasn't a pressure fighter you would see rj and eubank fight a beautiful match with rj getting the decision in the end.

BENN WASN'T TOO CONFIDENT ABOUT A FIGHT WITH RJ BECAUSE HE TURNED DOWN 50 MILLION DOLLARS TO PUT IT ON HOLD (AND LOST IN A SHOCK UPSET TO AN ANCIENT MALINGA). RJ SAID BENN/MCCLELLAN WAS THE "BEST FIGHT SINCE HAGLER/HEARNS" AND SAID BENN AND HIM WOULD BE THE "BIGGEST FIGHT SINCE HAGLER/LEONARD". THANKS TO NIGEL BENNS RELUCTANCE WE DID NOT GET TO SEE IT

                IS HE THE BENN NUTHUGGER?

OH GUYS, IF U THOUGHT HATTON WAS A DIRTY FIGHTER WELL HE WASN'T A PATCH ON BENN

MAYBE BENN WOULD OF BEATEN RJ WITH RABBIT PUNCHES, LOW BLOWS, HITTING AFTER THE BREAK, HITTING AFTER THE BELL, HITTING WHEN A MAN IS DOWN, DREADLOCKS IN THE EYES ETC.

                    COLLINS LOL: http://groups.google.co.uk/group/rec...42b833f?lnk=st

There is an interesting interview with Steve Collins in the RTE Guide
(Irish TV guide) Xmas edition. Selected snippets most likely to interest
                    rsbers.

"[Collins] is now looking for the head of Roy Jones, the IBF champion rated
by some as the best pound for pound fighter around. That's what some people
                    think. Not Steve Collins.

"I'll ask you a question", he says. "Do you think Roy Jones ever heard of
me?" You pause, wondering if this is a trick question. You nod in
affirmation. "Well, he doesn't seem to even know my name," Collins almost
whispers. "Roy Jones is quoted as saying: 'The only person who can give me
a challenge is Chris Eubank'. A week later, I beat Eubank. But Jones didn't
say then that he wanted Steve Collins. After I beat Eubank again, Jones was
saying "the only challenge out there for me is Nigel Benn". Well, the rest
                    is history".

                    On Robin Reid -

"Reid is a young champ who has won the world title and he will improve but
he's not ready for me". What about taking his belt? "Belts don't mean
anything," says the man who described Chris Eubank's WBO title as standing
for Wicked Body Odour. "I would fight Roy Jones for no belt tomorrow". He
                    talks about Jones's hype circus. Collins doesn't need one. He's a one-man
publicity gang. Mention the American and he's off, bobbing and weaving,
jabbing out point after point. "Collins and Jones? I'd put money on it!""

                    On his future ambitions -

                    "He wants a fight. A classic fight. A Hagler-Leonard fight. A Collins-Jones
fight. A classic. Then he might consider retirement. Maybe. "You can enjoy
it too much. Boxing is like a drug and, if it's doing me harm, if it's
doing me wrong, I may not be aware of it"."

WHY ON EARTH WOULD RJ FEAR COLLINS?? COLLINS HAD ZERO SKILL AND ZERO POWER, UNLESS HE MAGICALLY IMRPOVED HIS SKILL AND POWER ALOT WHEN HE LEFT THE US. I BET COLLINS WANTED THE FIGHT IN IRELAND ORWHEREVER OR PRICED HIMSELF OUT
