If GGG gets beat by Jacobs does it discredit everything he has ever done?

His defenses are already done, they're in the record books in what ever place he's in at MW. Yes if he loses to Jacobs that will look bad, just like anyone who loses to someone they should've beaten. I don't see Jacobs winning, he's too chinny and the fight that has people a little bit hyped of Jacobs is the Quillin fight and we all know Quilin was ridiculued as a paper champ who never fought anyone of note (like GGG). Maybe Jacobs exposes another guy with a weak resume but I doubt it, GGG is legit, he's the only MW with an Olympic medal and he has something like 300+ wins and 5 losses, so he is a legit fighter in a weight class with no one near his success as an amatuer or a pro. Jacobs is in big trouble here, not GGG, he could take a punch. If Jacobs wins though, you can say goodbye to the hype because although Jacobs is a step-up he's not all that anyway, already been KO'ed.

The talent is there its just so many other fighters who have taken more risks, better resumes, comparable skills, etc

If GGG loses it has no bearing on anything he did up to that point. Depending on how the fight goes, maybe a loss would show that GGG made a huge jump in comp, like the Charlo/Williams fight showed. Could be a robbery or a close fight that elevates GGG and Jacobs.

I just want to see him fight quality opponents.

This is correct, IMO. Right now I have GGG at #4 p4p. But I recognize that while he has beat alot of solid MW contenders -- he hasnt beaten anyone elite.

So, yes, the p4p ranking is based a bit on how I believe he would do fighting a fellow elite fighter. If he loses to Jacobs (who isnt quite elite, but is very good), then I was wrong, and the p4p was premature.

BUt he would still be a dominant MW titleholder. He still beat all those solid MW contenders. But he wouldnt be p4p.

And he wouldnt be THE MW CHAMP -- I have this fight as deciding the vacant MW championship

Chocolatito
Canelo
Mikey Garcia( he's in his prime, active and hasn't lost a step. Beat salido, loma didn't and also beat a fresher Martinez)

Adonis Stevenson( many won't like his placement but he is undefeated @ 175 as lineal champ and about half his defenses and fights @ 175 are over future or former champs) IMO he deserves it more than frampy or Santa Cruz.


Guys like GGG, Thurman, Garcia are on the cusp
