If he loses to Jacobs people will say the only time he fought a competent world class Middleweight he lost
All his 20+ defences wouldnt mean a damn thing, its not how many you beat its about when you step up do you actually deliver.

I feel unlike a lot of fighters who lose if GGG loses now, it will really really stain his career and wouldnt even be considered for the HOF.

He could be known as the guy who fooled the public for as long as he possibly could

It proves a lot of the hype and annointing him top 3-5 p4p was premature, he hasnt beat-any 1 elite

no it wouldnt, he defended his world title 17 times. He's no fraud. If jacobs wins, its a world class fighter beating another world class fighter, no shame in that.

        Not for me.

If GGG loses it has no bearing on anything he did up to that point. Depending on how the fight goes, maybe a loss would show that GGG made a huge jump in comp, like the Charlo/Williams fight showed. Could be a robbery or a close fight that elevates GGG and Jacobs.

I just want to see him fight quality opponents.

Saying "it would discredit everything he ever did" is WAAAY Overstating it

This is correct, IMO. Right now I have GGG at #4 p4p. But I recognize that while he has beat alot of solid MW contenders -- he hasnt beaten anyone elite.

So, yes, the p4p ranking is based a bit on how I believe he would do fighting a fellow elite fighter. If he loses to Jacobs (who isnt quite elite, but is very good), then I was wrong, and the p4p was premature.

BUt he would still be a dominant MW titleholder. He still beat all those solid MW contenders. But he wouldnt be p4p.

And he wouldnt be THE MW CHAMP -- I have this fight as deciding the vacant MW championship

Basically this and I'll add to it that ggg isn't a bad boxer whatsoever. We know he can beat the C's and B's with ease. Jacobs is a good fighter so if GGG does lose to him, I won't make too much of it as this is his first true test against a pretty good boxer.

Whatever the result, you can't take away his wins on his record. You can dissect them and nitpick his career and the way he was managed, ducked and handled by his team/fighters but he still beat and defended the titles he held

No, just like donaire he would be known as a boxer who losses to elite competitions. It's not Ggg's fault his division is crap.

no. what he has done he has done.

problem is he hasnt done much. his resume is weak, if he lost to the first real test he faced after such a long run facing bums..

well, first of all the hype would die as far as p4p ranking goes, thats all over and rightfully so. in fact it shouldnt have existed in the first place.

second, the whole thing about everyone ducking him would go as well. ppl would rather think he was the one doing the ducking, pulling a pr trick on the fans.

his credentials dont warrant his reputation as it is, if jacobs beats him that would be a very tough loss.

ppl have been comparing him to hagler ffs, can you imagine how easily hagler would dispose of jacobs? would be plain nasty.

Got to agree. I just dont see how he is top 5 right now but hey... If he beats Jacobs and another elite guy than he should be, but now.. ??? Hell no

The middleweight division is weak let's not kid ourselves. GGG has dominated a weak era with no legit challengers. His best fights have been against physically smaller men coming up from lower weights. I already made a great thread about how small a percentage of his opponents have been natural Middleweights. It would look bad for him the first time he fights a natural Middleweight champion he loses. I don't see it happening though, Danny Jacobs can't take a punch.
