Comments Thread For: Spence: Not Rattled By Boxing Brook in England; Built for This

There's nothing about challenging Kell Brook in his hometown that overly concerns Errol Spence Jr. Not being treated as the B' side in by far the biggest fight of his four-year pro career. Not the huge crowd that'll heavily favor Brook. And not the potential for that pro-Brook contingent to influence the judges' scoring.

" But there’s no concern at all about the judges because if I’m not mistaken, the IBF picks the judges, picks the officials. So there’s no concern at all with that.” - Errol Spence 2017

Just in case it gets to the point where the UK is accused of our infamous homecooking.

Slightly OT question which has probably been discussed somewhere else on the boards, but why is it that so few American fans travel abroad to support their fighters, while British, Irish, Europeans will often travel en masse, sometimes outnumbering the local fans? Is it something to do with American sports culture - like, their main sports are all pretty much domestic affairs - or is it a financial issue, or something else?

Spence is focused. I predict a hard 9 rounds before a stoppage. Spence in 9.

We don't get a lot of vacation time like you Europeans. Our vacation time is usually spent with our family. And we're used to the big fights being here. We'll watch the big fights on TV. I don't know for sure but I'm pretty sure the Rumble in the Jungle and Thrilla in Manila didn't have a lot of Americans traveling but a lot watched on TV. The price could also play a factor. I checked tickets from three different airports within 3 hrs of each and the prices were from $799 to $1599. That's a huge gap
                for airports that close.

Listening to Spence in this article and in quotes past, he seems to be sumpremely confident (not arrogant) and level-headed. It's hard not to appreciate his ring skills and the calm bravado he brings with it. I think it will be a competitive fight but my guess is Spence by late round stoppage or unanimous and clear decision.

Not that I'm in a rush to see the third fight, but I can't help but to contrast his bravado with Leo Santa Cruz's reluctance to go to Belfast. I can appreciate LSC's concern regarding officiating but why not use that and leverage the judges and referees you want? I would think a Belfast fight would generate more revenue than any other option.

                    I just hope Brook isn't badly weight-drained.

If he isn't, it will be a lot like Calzaghe-Lacy.
