When fans perceive a threat

I don't think anyone would argue that both Brook and Golovkin are favourites heading into the fights but you can't deny that there is a difference in how both these fights are being discussed on here and it comes down to Spence being seen as a threat where as Jacobs isn't. So call Spence the next Jeff Lacy or American hype job or whatever but the truth is (pun intended) you know he's a worthy opponent and a threat otherwise you would be trying to build him up like Jacobs so you can overrate the win rather than tear him down.

Just my thoughts on the fight.

I've always said Jacobs was a good fight for Golovkin, you can attempt to prove otherwise. I've also been on record many times to say that I don't see how Jacobs wins. So while Jacobs is a legit opponent, he is not a legit threat to him, to be fair a lot of that has to do with how good Golovkin is.

A fighter can be a legit opponent but not a legit threat, let me give some examples.

Tony Bellew is not a legit opponent for David Haye and he is not a legit threat either.

Wladmir Klitschko is a legit opponent for Anthony Joshua, he is also a legit threat.

Jason Sosa is a legit opponent for Lomachenko but he is not a legit threat.

Basically you can have a legit opponent who is worthy of sharing the ring with said fighter but that opponent may not have much of a chance to win.

Spence is a legit opponent and a legit threat. Of course this is subjective so there is room for disagreement, I'm just trying to carefully explain my standing.

At the end of the day it's all subjective. It doesn't matter whether others build up Jacobs for ulterior motives, ie, to make GGG's win more significant. Which has the same effect if you do the opposite, then Jacobs wins.

What matters is what you think, not what others think. I might as well stop watching boxing and base everything on what others see/saw.
