Comments Thread For: Verdejo's Trainer Not Happy, Unsure if Title Shot Should Be Next

Rising Puerto Rican lightweight star Felix 'El Diamante' Verdejo left a bad taste during his return to the ring in the starring role of Top Rank's Solo Boxeo card, which that took place on Friday at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum. Verdejo defeated - with some difficulties - Nicaraguan Oliver Flores by unanimous decision. The performance drew boos from the local fans in attendance. It's not the first fight where Verdejo put in a lackluster performance.

Verdejo went from being "the next tito" to possibly not even reaching juanma status.

verdejo will rise to the occasion when it matters. stop feeding him bums and give him some quality opposition he can get motivated for.

He just was in a bad motorcycle accident not too long ago, he most likely wasn't physically or mentally ready to give an A+ performance.

He was in a motorcycle accident. He's not ready yet for any title oppurtunity yet.

Give him a solid contender in May or June. Then title time by years end.

Also Verdejo might want to consider bringing in another corner man for his next fight.

Verdejo has been looked awful since a few fights ago, something needs to happen in that corner, some rumors were saying that he was partying too much, the motorcycle accident didn't help, or maybe he doesn't have it, but something needs to change if he wants to reach something in the sport, the 2012 olympic fighters are already world champions or looking for a title, see Lomachenko, Spence, Shiming, Usyk, Valdez, Murata, etc...

Not long ago it seemed Verdejo was the guy who would give Lomachenko a very tough fight, some even said he would win. You would think a younger aged pro would improve faster than an older aged pro but the opposite is the case with Verdejo which is puzzling.

Where Rosario, Benitez, Trinidad, and Cotto were at at this same point was they were going through guys like they werent there. Outboxing soundly or obliterating the opponent. I just dont see Verdejo having that success. He is a great guy with a big smile so hopefully he can go far. Very likable.

                    Seems like he's declining already.
