Was anyone predicting Ward would be rushing to a rematch pre-1st fight? I'm pretty sure there were a few guys saying Ward would sit on the rematch if he won in fact.

So this isn't really of surprise with Ward. I mean lets not forgot all the patience he showed with his promoter when things weren't going so good. He waited for that f#cking guy to die ffs lol. Now he's on top of many P4P lists & gots a bunch of respect for his W over Kovalev.

Guy gots all the patience in the world these days. Plus I feel like its a solid assumption he doesn't love the game like he used to & his patience is a direct result of him not really caring if he does fight again or perhaps the retirement talk is real.

And then there is the possibility Ward has just accepted he'll never be the guy he wants to be in fans minds (put SRL or Ali vs a Russian in a big fight & neither would have been as rooted against as Ward was among US fans which had to open up Ward's eyes to the negative opinion he's garnered by a lot of fans in his own country) & is working that angle to become a heel that maybe fans will wanna pay to see lose on PPV like Floyd perfected as some believe & I think is a valid theory.

Only thing that would be in favor of Kovalev is his jab...

which could completely offset Beterbiev's strengths

the thing you admire about Kovalev, will affect the things you admire about Beterbiev..... "Beterbiev inside game"..... "Beterbiev doesn't need distance"..... "Beterbiev technique is more composed"

at this point, I think Stevenson has a better chance of beating Kovalev..... Beterbiev's amateur success against Kovalev will count for little, Kovalev is a much better professional than Beterbiev at this point

I think ward is the champ and the champ holds all the cards. Kov wants a decision quickly but he should have won if he wanted to dictate terms. His team let Ward dictate terms to the first fight and then he won, now of course ward wants either a better split or more favorable terms (not certain if that's spelled out in rematch clause) and it's kov's turn to wait for him. Suck it up.

There's honestly no defense for this behavior if you're an HONEST fan of boxing. If you actually care about the sport AT ALL, then whether you're a Ward fan or not, you can't allow a guy to IGNORE his contractual obligations and hold belts hostage. That **** ain't cool man. Let's deal with the first point, Kovalev invoked the rematch clause immediately after the fight. Ward KNEW the clause was in the contract when he and his team signed it. And on top of that, the fight happened all the way back in November, it's been damn near 2 months since then and only NOW Kovalev's team saying anything about Ward making a decision. So to say that Kovalev "wants a decision quickly" is intentionally dishonest at best, and downright ridiculous at worst.

As Ward's demands, you and other Ward defenders really should be as realistic about that as Ward should. Let's be 100, the guy has NEVER been a money making draw, even in his hometown of Oakland. And on top of that, HE got the bigger split of the money than Kovalev did for the first fight, DESPITE the fact that Kovalev was the champion and should've gotten the bigger split. At this point, you're not caping for Ward to have "more favorable terms", you're caping for him to be coddled. And that's bull****. I've been a fan of Ward since his performance in the Super 6 tournament, but I'm a fan of boxing FIRST & foremost, and his actions in regards to this Kovalev fight are INDEFENSIBLE, and he should be held accountable by his fans of all people.
