Let ward go back to fighting on BET.

I never want to see him fight again.

Just put kov in with the other up and comers and those will be far more entertaining fights.

How was he exposed? Wasn't he moving up in weight to fight one of the top p4p fighters in the world?

Ward is waiting for offers doe. I'm still wondering where those offers would come from. It's basically a charity fight for Ward's retirement plan.

          . . . . this is confirmed info?

Was anyone predicting Ward would be rushing to a rematch pre-1st fight? I'm pretty sure there were a few guys saying Ward would sit on the rematch if he won in fact.

So this isn't really of surprise with Ward. I mean lets not forgot all the patience he showed with his promoter when things weren't going so good. He waited for that f#cking guy to die ffs lol. Now he's on top of many P4P lists & gots a bunch of respect for his W over Kovalev.

Guy gots all the patience in the world these days. Plus I feel like its a solid assumption he doesn't love the game like he used to & his patience is a direct result of him not really caring if he does fight again or perhaps the retirement talk is real.

And then there is the possibility Ward has just accepted he'll never be the guy he wants to be in fans minds (put SRL or Ali vs a Russian in a big fight & neither would have been as rooted against as Ward was among US fans which had to open up Ward's eyes to the negative opinion he's garnered by a lot of fans in his own country) & is working that angle to become a heel that maybe fans will wanna pay to see lose on PPV like Floyd perfected as some believe & I think is a valid theory.
              Great post!

There's honestly no defense for this behavior if you're an HONEST fan of boxing. If you actually care about the sport AT ALL, then whether you're a Ward fan or not, you can't allow a guy to IGNORE his contractual obligations and hold belts hostage. That **** ain't cool man. Let's deal with the first point, Kovalev invoked the rematch clause immediately after the fight. Ward KNEW the clause was in the contract when he and his team signed it. And on top of that, the fight happened all the way back in November, it's been damn near 2 months since then and only NOW Kovalev's team saying anything about Ward making a decision. So to say that Kovalev "wants a decision quickly" is intentionally dishonest at best, and downright ridiculous at worst.

As Ward's demands, you and other Ward defenders really should be as realistic about that as Ward should. Let's be 100, the guy has NEVER been a money making draw, even in his hometown of Oakland. And on top of that, HE got the bigger split of the money than Kovalev did for the first fight, DESPITE the fact that Kovalev was the champion and should've gotten the bigger split. At this point, you're not caping for Ward to have "more favorable terms", you're caping for him to be coddled. And that's bull****. I've been a fan of Ward since his performance in the Super 6 tournament, but I'm a fan of boxing FIRST & foremost, and his actions in regards to this Kovalev fight are INDEFENSIBLE, and he should be held accountable by his fans of all people.
The bold is ironic considering you appear to be posting as an alt.....

Why I like Sergey. Everything that comes out of his mouth is comical. To think a guy like him will be occupied with that.
Watching him dust the furniture would just be too funny. Haha.

If he has any integrity sign the rematch or at least announce your retirement.

On the other hand Kovalev just got back from vacation, has said that he will always be robbed by American judges (while next fight will most certainly be in U.S.), has done nothing on his end to try to clamor up fans to get them paid. You're speaking of honor and honesty, but use logic and business savvy. Ward just got out of the hardest fight of his life and is already marketing, not signing a contract immediately gives him time to add to the suspense. While whiny boxing fans clamored for may pac for years they made a world record gate through patience. Die hard fans aren't enough to get a fighter paid you need some crossover. If you don't have them, you gotta try to at least maximize your exposure.

Be still young man, when it is time you will know.
First off, no one is saying that there should be panic because negotiations have yet to taken place. What I WAS saying, is that you can't simply just dismiss the fact this guy is clearly holding belts hostage by not starting negotiations sooner. Kovalev being on vacation is obviously a moot point, NEITHER fighter has to be present at the negotiating table in order for negotiations to take place. That's what they PAY MANAGERS FOR. As for Ward, unless he and his team have plans to have their next fight, or the rematch, take place over in the UK, he should be trying to reach out to and appeal more to American boxing fans. Which in the business/political world we refer to as a "base".

I spoke of honor and honesty as a boxing fan, I was VERY clear about that. That said, one can speak from an HONEST standpoint and still address the business aspect of the sport. So I don't understand what point you were trying to make there. The bottom line is Ward's people could've began negotiating much sooner, even if Ward wasn't planning on fighting again until sometime this summer/fall. Again, the fight doesn't have to take place right away, but negotiations can and should have at least started already.

You really shouldn't attempt to belittle or talk down to people if you don't really know what you're talking about.
