  • As a Ward fan if he doesnt rematch Kovalev then he tarnishes his career

The contract was written, he accepted AND IT WAS A RAZOR CLOSE FIGHT!!! a true champion wants to erase all doubts..retiring off of that is laughable and disgraceful..Seriously win or lose the next fight you will be held in high respect (by reasonable boxing fans) and if you lose we get a trilogy...Man up and push forward champ..all this retirement talk is making you look very bad

Eastbay native and I feel the same way. Ward sometimes makes it hard to stay a fan. I mean he made his star winning the Super Six, and then disappears for 2 years. And then expects us to fill Oracle to see him beat journeymen.

And now all this coy talk about the rematch. I realize he's negotiating, but it makes him look scared.

Respect that he got up off the canvas against a killer and made it a close fight (I had Kov winning clear though).

He should want to avenge this fight, instead it seems like hes grateful he got away with the win.

He needs to fight Kovalev again. I hope this is him trying to gain leverage in negotiations?

              Kovalev wants it...

Give Kovalev the rematch he deserves, if Ward wins again then it's time to close that chapter.

I agree, all this talk of retirement makes him look scared whether he is or not. If he loses so what. There is way too much emphasis on the 0 in boxing these days. Some of the greatest fighters ever had 2-4 loses before they ever won a title.

Not a big Ward fan but I think he will fight Kovalev again. I think he is using retirement as leverage to get the best deal possible.
