HBO losing subscribers... Boxing getting cut?

Well I only subscribe to HBO around the time Game Of Thrones starts. Then I video on demand all the HBO shows I missed during the rest of the year. HBO boxing hasn't interested me in years. If it had more HW fights I would watch more but it doesn't. Last year I caught up on the shows Vinyl & True Detective during the 3 months I had HBO when GOT was airing. I will do the same this year & catch up on Westworld when I subscribe for a few months. I don't think I would miss boxing on HBO. It just isn't the same anymore without HW fights...

There is for sure a chance. I mean they've looked into MMA and the UFC specifically already and it's only bigger now.

Why don't you think it has no chance? Curious if you got a legit logical reason or if you're one of those boxing is in HBO's DNA nutty guys.

Sponsors will be very unhappy.

UFC has tons of high paid ones that help market them. Not gonna happen if they move to HBO compared to free TV and regular cable networks.

It doesn't make sense praying for HBO to disappear from boxing.

Can't imagine PBC/SHO being able to accommodate all these fighters when Haymon's own fighters are now fighting once a year.

Nobody's praying for anything.

Everything logically points to HBO exiting the boxing industry altogether in a few years. If they do... all US fighters will be forced to go to PBC and you have no more excuses as to why certain fights can't be made.

I feel like boxing leaving HBO has been a slow, yet steady, inevitability. Frankly, I will be sad to see that era of boxing end - I have loved watching boxing on HBO for years. Boxing After Dark has been a staple in my life since I was a child, and World Championship Boxing has been a cultural institution as far as I'm concerned. But time marches on for all things, and frankly, this could have an unexpected upside to it.

One of the major downfalls of boxing has been the lack of access - as well as lack of cross promotion. You never see Showtime advertise HBO's next event or vise versa. So imagine that boxing becomes more unified under one brand. Showtime and CBS could become the singular home for contenders and champions...ABC/ESPN (using GBP) can have the journeymen and rising prospects. Fans would have an easier time following the progress, as during live programing they would know when every major event was up coming, instead of only half the events. If CBS/Showtime can start getting serious traction, maybe we'll see more fights on CBS (assuming Angel Garcia hasn't soured the execs) - instead of World Championship Boxing on HBO, we could see big title fight, on primetime, on network TV again. That is something to hope for if HBO does indeed abandon the sport.
