Nobody is saying Washington is a great choice but we are at least pleased that he's better than the original, we were all worried about who Wilder would select to stand in for Warwzyk.

But seriously speaking Wilder has to step it up after this fight, enough is enough.... no more excuses or justifying less than stellar opponents. Right now His resume is TRASH!!
Agreed this eches everything I think.

Anybody who follows heavyweight boxing knows Wawrczyk is a terrible choice of opponent even after corrective surgery. The Polish carpet fitter has no business fighting for a world title.

" Deontay needs to avoid using his right hand to the body come fight night"...........................??????

Where do you think a "repaired broken hand" lands first?
He should be jabbing and throwing to the midsection or side with the right not the head at first. They should have that planned out in sessions and hopefully ready to go.

People crying over the opponents GGG has fought need to go back and read the names that held a part of the 160 title who REFUSED
to fight him. Sergio, Cotto and Canelo all said yeah but refused to sign and brought pathetic excuses as well. Canelo gave up his belt and ran and there's no dis*****g that.

If Wilder wins I can see him going down yonder to get Parkers belt then making the big splash with AJ or Wlad with Tyson being the outside shot or maybe future opponent.

lol reading the comments. Is this the logic of this site 'oh well the replacement wasnt as bad as the original opponent', INstead of demanding he actually fight someone good in the first place? you lot are easily pleased lol

Really? The guy is coming off breaking his hand again and a torn bicep. I don't mind him getting a bout in then going for a big name (Parker, Haye, Fury, AJ) in the summer. Which I am sure he will do.

I've been incredibly critical of Wilder and his bum-bashing ways. And will continue to be until he steps up and fights an actual top heavy - right now his record is a joke, and it's disgraceful that someone carries the belt, and nearly 40 fights, without proving a damn thing.

But, he does get a pass for this one - it's a replacement fighter, and while fighters aren't overly active to begin with, it is serious injuries he's coming back from. Considering the bull**** that's happening with PED's recently, I don't blame him for avoiding Ortiz - he's a test failure waiting to happen (again).

Once he dispatches of Washington however, he NEEDS to fight an elite heavy next. He absolutely has to, and there's no other scenario which is remotely acceptable. If he continues crushing cans, he deserves every bit of criticism coming his way.

I have zero faith that he will step up, however.

Ive never known such a shambolic list of opponents for a heavyweight champion in all my life, seems to be allergic to fighting anyone in the top 10.
Because the bar is set so low that when he fights an OK opponent it seems way better than it is.

Wilder needs to step up? How is it Wilders fault Povetkin failed his test?

How is it Wilders fault Tyson Fury has been emotionally unstable?

While we're at it, let's blame Wilder for Trump being elected.

Who the hell is praising the fight? Yet another one of your insane assertions.

Washington is a fine opponent. Wilder is coming off an injury and will have ring rust. A live dog, but not a top10 fighter is exactly what a fighter in Wilder's position should be doing.

Fighting Ortiz without knowing how well your surgically repaired power hand is going to respond is just silly. We definitely should have a better fight in the summer.

Actually no, blame the ABC orgs and their watered down titles for hire. Wilder is doing nothing different than any other titlists, he's just catching more flak for being American.
