Adonis Stevenson vs. Joe Smith Jr. on April 29? In negotiations...

Saw this coming. Stevenson will retire without a serious test.
People pick on golovkin's resume and fair enough he doesn't have that ATG win... But imagine if Golovkin was in a totally stacked division and went MIA during negotiations every year until he was 40 and you have stevenson/Last edited by ////; 01-19-2017, 02:59 PM.Comment

Nobody wants to help promote the guy once he gives them the run around.
Kovalev/Hopkins/Ward/Pascal all have the same story about Stevenson wanting to "fight" them AKA mention them in the media then not return their phone calls.
If you're a Stevenson fan you basically have to hate every other boxer and believe they're all in some organized conspiracy against him.Comment

Very well said. 175 has a lot of talent and then there's Chickenson. I knew he'd try to jump on this as quickly as possible, much like Hopkins did. I hope it backfires.Saw this coming. Stevenson will retire without a serious test.

Exactly, that right there is the common denominator. Plus, look at Kovalev's last three fights- Ward, Chilemba, Pascal(another fighter Chickenson refuses to fight from his own country). Then look at Chickenson's last three- Willimas(eh), Karpency(double eh) and Bika(is he STILL around?). Obviously one guy likes challenges. The other guy is Chickenson.Nobody wants to help promote the guy once he gives them the run around.

I'll be rooting for Joe for sure if this gets made.
He'll be the underdog and rightfully so.
Honestly I think the guy deserves an easier fight than this but whatever I'm not gonna complain about someone taking a bunch of tough challenges in a row.Comment

All I'm saying is that Star Boxing, from the moment that they seemed to have started working with Chris Algieri (BoxRec puts that at some time in early 2011) delivered 9 fights for Chris Algieri and likely lost money on all of them; the Provodnikov fight was the first opportunity (which still likely didn't come with all that much money), but the Pacquiao fight was the likely first time that any real money was made, by anybody. You can call it the cost of business for guys like Smith, but I just call it taking advantage of the fighter.
Algieri specifically didn't seem to even grasp the f#ckery he signed on for til it was too late from what I can recall from his story so I'd assume there are more cats like him than unlike him in that way.
And thats not to defend Algieri for not doing his due diligence with his contract details, but then again I can't not sh^t talk the guy whos taking advantage of people who've likely never seen the kinda money most of these guys are seeing for the first time nor have an attorney or even know how to go about getting an attorney to check out their contract to fully understand the details of it.
So that being the case f#ck Star Boxing.
This isn't Caribe Promotions (who basically sat at the table and took their piece from guys, simply because they were the outfit that helped many Cuban defectors get out of the country), an outfit that basically had no interest in actually staging any event.
Joe Smith Jr is definitely a talent, but he wouldn't be on the cusp of the opportunity that he's likely to get, were it not for Star Boxing taking the bath on all of the shows they put under him on his build up. just my opinion, anywayComment
