  • WMUTE. Aight First. Del la Hoya was running from tito throwing un-powerful flurry's that never hit. Jim Lamply was Oscar **** riding, saying Oh my. Oscar was scared, so he ran. IF a re-match and De La Hoya stood toe to toe with Tito, watch out, cause Tito's gonna put all this talk to rest. I hate how peole think Oscar is so great, that just shows you how media effects our soceity's brain. Oscar ran from Tito at the end, don't you agree???

Then On the other hand you say Tito had a paper belt. Name good welter's that he didn't fight. You talk about Pernell W. Tito beat him down worse than De La Hoya did. Tito destroyed career's then De La Hoya would fight the same guys Tito always embarassed. If anything De La Hoya is the paper boy, picking fights that Tito already Bluebrinted for him how to win. And everyone can talk about Tito's two losses in Middlewight...but Ocscar has 4 and ray Robinson has 19, and leonard purley didn't hold a belt very long or fight enough. I didn't want to bring ray robinson back into this...because he is the only other that can argualbly be the best welter ever.

why exactly should no one mention the word paper belt if the IBF belt was a paper belt in fact?

And by the way I did not mention it until someone said tito was champ longer than leonard. So it was not me starting this ****

no shame in that, but that still does not make him champ for longer than leonard

this is your opinion, not facts, there is plenty of people who will tell you otherwise (outside of puertorico of course). I personally dont give a flying f-+k since I dont particularly like any of the two.

      how is that explaining again?

you can go on think tito is the best 147 ever,

I just like to point out that it's BS for a number of reasons so the uninformed reader does not actually think tito is the best 147 ever.

I dont think oscar is great, I just think he beat tito in that fight, among the reasons the fact that part of those flurries were landing. what was tito landing?

by the way when you are in with a big puncher, you don't run cos you are scared, you run to win.

you are entitled to your own opinion about the outcome of a rematch between the two, I dont care about it, they are both past it and i don't care particularly about either.

Tito got his belt from blocker who won it while vacant from someone I guess. That's a paper belt. END OF THE STORY AND NOT TAKING AWAY ANYTHING FROM WHO TITO FOUGHT EXCEPT FOR:ù

Sweet Pea was past it and on coke (or in rehab) when he fought tito. When Oscar fought Pea, Pea was not at his peak, but definitely still had it.

If you are making this comparison as a serious argument I am happy to stop bothering posting answers to you.

what has oscar to do with the best welterweight ever? nothing, just like tito

as for robinson 19 losses... LOL 17 of them after his prime.

the other 2 being a decision loss to Jake La Motta (with a 16 pounds disadvantage) and the heat collapse while outboxing joey maxim, the light heavyweight champion of the world

yes you should not have brought robinson in the argument because you just made yourself look... uninformed.

          who is leonard purley???????

I have no doubt that it must be Walker Smith Jr.

Hahaha. Sugar Ray Leonard tough guy, read it again.

And what do you think about Oscar always fighting people after Tito did?

                - hagler could not stand toe to toe with tito? LOL! he shook off hearns' best (and hearns hit stronger than tito) + as you say he was a MW.

                - hearns could not stand toe to toe with tito? LOL he would not need to, because he would be able to outbox him and hit him with his right AT WILL. Hearns is a better boxer than De La Hoya, in fact he was outboxing Sugar Ray Leonard.

                - leonard could not stand toe to toe with tito? LOL Leonard stood toe to toe with hearns who again hit harder than tito.

                - hopkins was not known for being a defensive fighter until he was 40: he was known for roughing people up and destroy them, which he did to tito

                - winky is not a middleweight he fought at 154 most of his fights

                - Tito held a paper belt more than anyone else until he robbed De La Hoya, who was recognized as the lineal champion
Well Said. Great post and would give karma; but have to spread it around. Good one.

Trinidad has not faced anyone of their caliber; not De La Hoya, Wright, or Hopkins. The opposite is true for the fab 4. Leonard, Hearns, Duran, and Hagler have all faced opponents as good as, if not better than, Trinidad. They all possessed the needed boxing skill and punching power to seriously trouble Tito. If he was outclassed and shut out by Hopkins and Wright, i'd be afraid of what Leonard, Duran, and especially Hearns would do. And this is coming from a big fan of Felix.

As for the main discussion of greatest welterweight of all-time, i'd have to go with Sugar Ray Robinson. Sure, he might be slightly overrated in the sense that he wasn't invincible as people like to perceive. He did have some trouble with taller fighters and was slightly susceptible to a quick right cross. However, all in all, he was the best the 147 pound division has seen and i wouldn't bet against him in any bout at welterweight. He had the skill, dominance, and opposition to prove it.

Has there been any mention of Joe Walcott, Mickey Walker, Kid Gavilan? I always thought that Napoles was slightly underrated too. And you can't have a welterweight discussion without Henry Armstrong. Luis Rodriguez is often forgotten as well.
This is another great post....and props for mentioning the ones who should have been in this discussion; but weren't. Guess there's no need bringing up Walker and the rest, since Tito would have "destroyed" them.

In case you didn`t know, the Walker we are refering to is Sugar Ray Robinson. Thats his birth name. And no, Tito would not have destroyed him. Not even close
