I've been thinking along those lines myself. Canelo vs Cotto did so well on HBO PPV because it was bought by both Mexican Americans and Puerto Ricans.

So far as PPV sales in America go, Mexican fighters all share the same fan base, and they're not going to be paying for the fight twice!

If you're doing a Ppv and most of your income is not from the Ppv sales, that's not a mega Ppv, that's niche entertainment. But all that side money is there for the GGG fight, Canelo gets all the Mexican proceeds anyway. You should work on your excuse making
There was few PPV back then ,there was no PPV fighters but he made tons of money.

Mega PPV is what? if 1m is your Mega PPV it can be Mega ,but live Azteca TV with 18-20mln vievers with ads is $$$ ,TV rights for this fight in mexico is goldmine with big or low PPV numbers.

I think Golovkin easily. Chavez' reputation and fighter profile has come a long way since Maravilla fight. His last fight wasn't even on HBO. He's coming off a decision victory over a no name fighter. If he fought on HBO at least a few times, maybe he would pull well.

Right now, I don't expect Jr to sell better than Khan. Khan fight was also over Cinco de Mayo weekend and pulled ~460k. I'd expect 500K for this, wouldn't be surprised if it's 350K and would be shocked if it pulls anywhere near a million buys.

Golovkin-Canelo is a bonafide superfight that should pull a million buys.

It's pretty much the same pool of Ppv buyers. It's good to have the Mexican American buys locked in no doubt but you need more for huge numbers. And no Mexican is buying this crap and passing on Canelo GGG either

So that's what I'm saying, it's a mega fight in Mexico. But we're talking us ppv and there it gets smoked by Canelo GGG. That would also do great on azteca, and Canelo wouldn't have to share any of it.

Ask me this after the Jacobs PPV numbers come out. I'm not sure what GGG's true popularity is outside of what his promoter and HBO tells me. His PPV starpower hasn't added up yet.

As of today I can't answer this question. The better fight doesn't necessarily mean the more profitable.

3-4 years ago, when Chavez Jr, when Chavez Jr was relevant, this would have been a much bigger fight. This fight will do better PPV numbers than it should, but GGG-Canelo will be much bigger.

Chavez Jr hasn't had a meaningful win since he beat Andy Lee in 2012. He's an afterthought.

As much as I dislike the fight, I'll say Canelo-Chavez is more profitable

Why would you think that? You think there's one Mexican that would buy this garbage and pass on Canelo GGG?
