Absolutely. I'm not sure if you know how far the last name Chavez stretches in Mexico and all over the southwest part of the good ol' US of A, but you throw in the red headed fighter with it and it easily does better numbers in my opinion.

For as big a deal as Los Reyes del Mago is in Mexico & the Mexican cultuer in the USA, this story was still the headliner in a lot of online material as well as spanish networks. GGG to boxing fans is better, a harder fight on paper and the guy we want to see Canelo fight, but the Mexican fan base, that supports their fighters through and through will tell you this is a bigger fight when speaking in terms of what OP is asking

Hmm odd, all Mexican legends like Chavez SR, Morales, Barrera, Marquez say Canelo GGG is the biggest fight in boxing. Nobody said that about Chavez Jr. No doubt it'll be viewed by many in Mexico (as would GGG) but those don't add to the Ppv totals. Mexican Americans haven't been turning out for Chavez Jr lately, they'd rather see GGG at the forum vs anyone.

"The fight with Saul Alvarez is being negotiated. That is the fight that everyone wants to see. The negotiations are very advanced. The fight could very well take place in May... they only need to agree on the money where both of them come away as winners. The weight has already been set, and they would both come in at 165-pounds. I think this fight will become a success in every aspect. They are going to break all of the attendance records. They are going to break [the numbers that] I did in Texas [in 1993 with Pernell Whitaker], as they are both great boxers," Chavez Sr. said.

ESPN Deportes call this fight "POLARIZING & years in the making."

I can look more quotes up from guys like Morales and JMM if you like. This fight WILL be a big deal once it gets closer to May 6 and I still believe blows Canelo-GGG out of the water, financially speaking

but we can agree to disagree

I can name tons of Mexican vs Mexican fights that are not nearly as big as GGG vs Canelo, heck there are probably several you've seen on undercards recently. In fact I can go further and say that there are fights with Mexicans Canelo has had that are not as big as a GGG fight (take for instance, Angulo). Takes more than nationality to sell tickets and PPVs.

Jr's dad may be a legend but that's not proof that people care to see him in the ring.
At what point did I suggest Chavez was a bigger match up than GGG vs Canelo, I stated Chavez will be a higher grossing opponent for Canelo hence the match up.

A GGG fight is bigger for genuine boxing fans, two Mexicans on Mexican independence weekend sells more, period.

I honestly believe GGG will regret turning that 15m down, talk about an inflated sense if self worth. Oscar was right, the guy believes he is a superstar.

I don't see him saying it's the biggest fight in boxing, like he said for GGG. I didn't say it was gonna be a dud, it'll be successful esp in Mexico but not 1m buys successful

Polarizing = Mexican Americans will buy, others won't.

Like I said, we can agree to disagree. I just think you don't know how big this is to all Mexicans here and south of the border. I never said it was 1 million buys, I'm giving you my opinion that this will be more profitable than Canelo vs GGG. That's all.

It's simply a waiting game now if Canelo and GGG ever do face-off

You got some evidence for that? Or at least an argument that you feel good about?

It's a toss up the fact its Mexican Vs Mexican could make this one sell very well.

Even if you go to the Mexican fan base GGG vs Canelo will sell more than Chavez vs. Canelo, so at the end of the day GGG is worth more than Chavez.

Chavez has the name but really he has done so little over the last few years that he isn't worth a whole lot, not that he ever did a lot, he just rode of his father's success.

Anyways, i am posting a poll to see which fight is worth more, and that should answer the question if GGG should get more than Chavez.
Alvarez vs Chavez Jr will likely do $10m at the gate at AT&T Stadiun, with that number likely near doubling in the site fee to be offered by MGM Resorts to host the fight.

The fact that you want to think that there's all of this money, that's never been out there previously, now available to back Golovkin makes you look dumb.
