Also, there absolutely needs to be an immediate rematch. If Ward avoids it, he will deserve every bit of the criticism he would get for doing so.

What we all can take from this fight is that Kovalev is legit and Ward got pretty much exposed as extremely limited. All Ward did was trying to headbutt, throw his jab and clinch because he was scared of Kovalevs power. All the real boxing fans know this was a setup to rob the Enemy of the States, the Russian Intruder. Kovalev could only win this by knockout and its hard to knock out a guy who wrestles and clinches half of the fight and fights to survive.
All that got pretty much proved now that Ward is terrified of the rematch and crying about retiring.
Ward: I might retire.
Boxing fans: So what?Comment

like i told you before the fight....Kov has no inside game, ended up initating a lot of the clinching you crybabies had ready made excuses for before the fight, and had no 3rd, 4th gear when ward was closing the gap after a rough first few rounds...both are top 5 p4p performers, you're just butthurt KOVALEV LOSTComment

I had the fight draw when scoring it live, but changed my opinion after rewatching it to a Kovalev decision by 2 rounds. I think what swung the judges and some of the people is that Ward looked extremely overmatched the first 3 rounds, but did better as the fight progressed. Spectators picked up on that and assumed Ward must be winning.
Some things I've noticed:
-Ward got a lot of credit for body of work on the inside. But Kovalev did as good if not better, through the first 6-7 rounds on the inside.
-Ward initiated the inside fighting/clinching, but Kovalev agreed to it, which he did very willingly. Anyone blaming refs for this fight is a fool. Kovalev should not played into Ward's hands and tried to stay outside more.
-Kov gassed by the 8th.
-Kov's jab is money. He touched Ward often with it, and was successful every time. I noticed the same when Ward fought Barrera. No matter how slow Barrera was, Ward ate a ton of jabs.
-Ward took the power very well, much better than expected. All the 'questionable chin' comments have been put to rest.
-Kovalev clearly won the 10th.
-Both fighters looked limited in different ways. Kovalev hates fighting in corners which is why he couldn't finish off Ward in the 3rd. Ward barely threw his right because he was afraid of getting countered by the bigger puncher.
Hope we get a rematch in June.Comment

I've viewed and scored the fight twice. On first watch I had it 114-113 for Kov. Second watch I had it 115-112 Kov. Very close fight with some swing rounds, but I did think Kovalev won the fight. The rematch is intriguing as hellComment

Oh and almost forgot! I have watched the fight ___________times and every time it becomes more obvious to me that_____________won.Comment

Well the anonymous forum guy didn't declare anything. The judges did. They were the ones who officiated the fight and stated that Andre Ward won. So by that merit, yes its over. Thanks for your corny passive aggressive commentComment
