I watched that fight back today too. Pirog was superb. Such a shame he got injured.

He really didn't right like the stereotypical Soviet school fighter at all though. Great head and upper body movement like you said, bent his legs and didn't stay tall, leaned at the waist, used a lot of hooks, feinted constantly, was very fluid, and fought at a high tempo.

Golovkin doesn't fight exactly like Pirog but he is just as unconventional as him, if you're taking the stereotype of the Eastern robot as your model. He also fights at a high tempo, stays low a lot of the time, and looks to score big with hooks in a way that the stereotype Soviet school fighter doesn't.

Golovkin might be a good bit more hittable than Pirog, but if the Lemieux fight is anything to go by he's nowhere near as reckless if he respects the opponent's power.

The bigger question is what has Jacob's learned about how to deal with pressure. He did ok at times against Pirog but he always looked very uncomfortable with the rabbit role. Got caught square on several occasions. He landed some nice shots but in general it was single shots. Rarely did he score a significant combination. That probably wouldn't be enough to beat Golovkin.

Won't get much better sparring than those three monsters. Jacobs won't lose because of a lack of trying. That's for sure.

There are most definitely all kinds of pressure that someone could apply; still, if you've come comfortable with pressure (and Golovkin's history has already shown that he's not an otherwordly power puncher), you've created the space to let the actual boxing ability carry through.

If Golovkin tries that stalking/pressure stuff (against a guy who's hopefully prepared to deal with the power), how is he going to cope with a switch-hitting power puncher who has good boxing skills/length, with an uncanny ability to shorten up his shots and fire in combination on the inside?

Talks of Golovkin's preparation seems to have gone quiet, even with Abel Sanchez still running his mouth.
Why would he have weight issues? He was coming off the Mora fight, and planned on a December date anyway. Must you make **** up and outright lie in every single post?

You still on the pirog fight?
            Lot has changed since then.

You might as well judge GGG off the Ouma fight....when he was getting tagged like crazy.

            Ya'll pulling hard for GGG.

I don't think Jacobs gets walked through, but I do see him being broken down over the course of about 5-7 rounds. He simply can't absorb the incoming fire as well as GGG looks to be able to.

at Jacobs needing 3 months to get fit after fighting in mid-September and taking little damage or time off. I guess he wasn't at peak form vs Mora? Danny about to ascend to his next form? Level up? there is a such thing called "overtraining"

watch out ya'll, Super Danny Jacobs is coming.

To Scipio's credit, just because we don't hear about Jacobs having weight issues doesn't mean he isn't having those issues.

Daniel Jacobs is 6', has 73" reach, and is a pretty well-built guy; if I had to guess at what Jacobs walks around at, I wouldn't be too shocked if he were at the low 180s.

Beyond that, no one is saying that Jacobs has weight issues; the simple point being made is that, after the press tour, Daniel Jacobs will be able to have a full ten-week camp focused on simply preparing to fight Gennady Golovkin, and nothing else.

Hilarious how you, yourself, invent this nonsense about Jacobs having weight issues, yet want to talk about "making **** up".
