If Ward retires he leaves out on top just like Lennox Lewis.. did Calzaghe not rematching Hopkins damage his legacy? not really, and that was a close fight as well. also let's keep in mind close fight doesn't automatically make it a robbery. .and who gives a flying **** about Fat Dan, that clown doesn't know **** about boxing, he criticized Rigo after the Donaire win even though it was a flawless masterpiece aside from a knockdown. how do you call yourself a boxing journalist and not appreciate the skills on display that night.

Ward did what most said he couldn't..how many people said he would never face Kovalev in the first place? that he would fake an injury. .how many people thought Ward could survive Kovalev's power? not many. it was a terrific come from behind victory, a Rocky movie type fight. it was drama and action, Ward took over the second half and won. period.

he's already in the HOF... rematch or not, it doesn't change that.

I think Joe won more clearly against Hopkins. Ward lost 115-112, those were the correct scores. Ward did well to survive by not getting blasted by jabs and dropped. I would compare it to a rocky type fight if ward did more damage. But his punches did nothing and Kovalev out boxed him for most of the fight.

I would compare it more to pacman-Bradley 1.

Guys, Ward is just sending out soundbytes to see if the fight is worth it and has a great demand among fans. He's just seeing if it's worth it or not. If enough people demand it I doubt he's going to retire without a rematch. Stop taking anything he says as written in stone.

I don't get when people say this. What leverage is he after? He already had the fight on the west coast and made more than double Kovalev and the fight sold terribly for the money he got paid.

What leverage could he possibly be holding out for? The rematch in Oakland with his wife as referee and his sons and the judges? He can't honestly expect more than $5 million after the fight bombed financially...

I would never dog on a fighter for retiring, so many guys leave the sport screwed up that it doesn't seem right to criticize someone for stopping. If Ward is going to retire, I have no problem with that.

If he keeps fighting, his next fight should be a rematch with Krusher. It was too close of a fight to move on from.

But I agree with Rafael. Give me Krusher and Stevenson over Krusher Ward 2. Enjoy your retirement SOG.
