will be based on how much heat K2/HBO are willing to put behind the fight
In Daniel Jacobs, Gennady Golovkin has an opponent that can push the promotions of the event in the US; Jacobs can hit NYC radio, Jacobs can hit ESPN/Sportcenter, and, heck, Jacobs can hit the daytime shows (The View/The Talk, Live with Kelly, etc) and hold his own of the promotion (though it's helped endear him to the hardcore audience that trolls blogs, Golovkin's badly broken English isn't going to hold up all that well in front of non-sports (and even some sports) audiences.
You add that, in Golovkin-Jacobs, HBO now has a matchup that would warrant the 24/7 treatment (Jacobs has a story worth telling, and Golovkin needs all the help he can get to build his profile up for the possible Alvarez fight), and the attention in the boxing world should pick up in a major way.
I don't think that 250k PPV buys is out of the question, and that number could likely get up to 400k-500k, depending of if the casual audience gets hooked for the matchup.
