No waiting necessary: Kovalev is the no.1 light heavyweight. Period.

Stevenson has defenses against chumps in competitive fights and Ward lost to Sergey.

          End of debate.

And I can't agree with establishing Beterbiev as #2, even though I really like him as a fighter. Pimp Stevenson is the lineal champ, Alvarez has been waiting for a shot now, and Gvozdyk has a similar background/style as Beterbiev but with a better resume (Chilemba).

Kovalev vs. Beterbiev would be an amazing fight, but it's not establishing a clear #1.
Good call j0zef. Beterbiev vs. Gvozdyk is where it's at. Winner can fight Andre Ward for #1.

                  No he's not.Period

Kovalev called Stevenson a chicken then ran from his own post fight interview soon as Stevenson stepped to him.

                  Duva..

Demanded a pursed bid and #1 WBC ranking for Stevenson's title....then RAN just as soon as her wishes were granted.

That's not the behavior of a confident fighter or promoter.

                    Kovalev >>> Stevenson.

As for the thread topic-- Beating Beterbiev would not make Kovalev # 1.

no matter how you'd like for the top 2 175ers to come from the eastern European sect or Russia, its not true

the top two 175ers are Ward and Stevenson....both are undefeated at the weight and have all the hardware...tough tittie

Delusion of the highest order to think Kovalev-Beterbiev establishes a "clear" #1 by any means. But yeah I think Kovalev and Ward are both better than Stevenson.

beterbiev hasnt even beat a top ten contender lol

Stevenson is slowing down, got hit a lot vs williams Jr....he is an upset waiting to happen...i favor kov and ward over him at this point...in 2013-2014 he couldve sparked them out....he was alot more explosive and elusive, couldve upset one of them.
