Whether you agree or disagree, Ward won against Kovalev. Unless Kovalev wins a rematch, or Ward decides to 'retire' (in which case he's the biggest puss ever), Kovalev is not the #1.
And I can't agree with establishing Beterbiev as #2, even though I really like him as a fighter. Pimp Stevenson is the lineal champ, Alvarez has been waiting for a shot now, and Gvozdyk has a similar background/style as Beterbiev but with a better resume (Chilemba).
Kovalev vs. Beterbiev would be an amazing fight, but it's not establishing a clear #1.Comment

Beterbiev is a prospect with no wins over top ten light heavyweights and Kovalev is coming off a loss in his last fight
no matter how you'd like for the top 2 175ers to come from the eastern European sect or Russia, its not true
the top two 175ers are Ward and Stevenson....both are undefeated at the weight and have all the hardware...tough tittieComment

Kovalev arguably beat one of the best fighters in the world. Stevenson has been fighting security guards and Eastern European fisherman.
Kovalev >>> Stevenson.
As for the thread topic-- Beating Beterbiev would not make Kovalev # 1.Comment

ah looks like you and a few others disagree about number 1 status. I'd still sure as hell love to see that fight thats for sure.Comment

Kovalev would smash him in the pros. Beterbiev is too raw to deal with the power and skills of Sergey.Comment
