The reason boxing is for the big boys is unless you come from the Don King Arum era, you have to have lots of money to build up a fighter. You have to market the fighter so the casuals, the ethnic fans who know boxing will pay. If you look at this fight as advertising for Ward, its not a loss anymore than an advertiser pays a premium for eyeballs advertising in the Super Bowl.
The problem, something Daggum has pointed out which I wholly agree with, is that there are not many fights on the horizon for Ward. To make money he would have to probably go down and fight GG much as that makes no sense. After Floyd had his breakout fight with big draw Oscar he had other guys to fight...Ward doesn't. So you build him up and hope some big fights come along, but from where?
